I can't get anyone to respond on the chances board, hopefully that is not some kind of sign. How am I looking for UNC?

well if you were in-state, you would probably gotten in easily. but being OOS, your stats are pretty average, especially your rank. Keep in mind that lot of kids get into Princeton but not UNC OOS...so its tough. However, you still have a very good chance. I think being a page is pretty good honor (i dont know anything about it)...but work on your essays and your EC's, they really matter. It would be also beneficial to start a club, therefore showing ambition. I didn't do this but luckily I was in-state hah...

um if u have more questions feel free to post them and Good Luck, you have a good chance

Thanks! Yeah I had kind of a bad freshmen year, lot's of B's, which dropped my rank. Also my high school is extrememly competitive; most kids ranked above me used all these tricks to raise their ranks (taking random weighted electives as opposed to unweighted ones, etc). I wish I'd known to do this, but I guess it's a little late for that now...

I was also thinking of applying OOS
SAT 1=2220 770 V, 750 M, 700 W
34+ ACT
class rank top 5%
good EC's, many varsity sports, captain of 2, job since age 14, NHS, community service
any chance?

tumama- For an OOS student, your rank and GPA are very average. Your SAT score is really good, though. You probably need more in the extracurricular department, too. Write awesome essays, and put together a solid application. Good luck!

1) Apply Early Action, Apply Early Action, Apply Early Action.
2) See if there's ANY WAY you can show to them your love for Carolina, and why you feel like you're a good fit. You don't have to be super explicit (i.e. I'd be a good fit for Carolina because of x, y, and z), but I think it's something that should be done. It may make them take you more seriously than they would have.

I don't think that your application is weak, necessarily, but it doesn't have too much of a hook. That's where your essay should come in. Start brainstorming immediately (not writing) on interesting experiences you've had, your thoughts, things that you wouldn't write in your average journal entry.
