No optional essay - bad?

Hi, so I didn't submit an optional essay because I was a .. well .. foolish >.< person who submitted her app at 12 58 jan 2 (or whatever date it was due - dont remember now)

I wrote out this really cool essay too - with comics of the movies & books I liked..(well I thought it was cool at the time haha) and it was pretty funny.

And then..I scanned it and the file size was too big! D: (should have realized that earlier but whatever)

So no optional essay, and since I got the interview deadline dates mixed up..no interview.

I honestly do really want to go to Chicago (first choice - but didnt apply ea because I didnt know it then), so I am wondering

how optional is the optional essay?

should i upload it onto the chicago website applicants have access to, in the update your application section?

or should i just email a counselor and ask?

Thanks in advance for any answers

From what I understand, it isn't really that optional.

I'd talk to my guidance counselor if I were you, particularly if it's your first choice.

Optional is optional. But if it bothers you, just submit what you would've written from the applicant's section.

For what it's worth, D opted not to submit an optional essay and was accepted EA.

I did not submit the optional essay, I did not have an interview, I submitted the application at 11:57 on the deadline, and I was accepted EA.
Don't let it stress you out, but as KMad says, you can submit it through the applicant section of the admissions website if you think it would strengthen your application.

On a side note, don't listen to Amadeuic... he lies...

If you think you have a worthy optional essay, definitely talk to the counselor that they gave you on the Chicago admissions website and then submit it through there.

if it's good, find a way to submit it.
if not, forget about it. it's optional, and they mean it.
