No overnights for PPW

yes and it is Hell for the plebes....suddenly you have the whole company yelling at you. It's only after HELL-o night that the rest of the Brigade can have contact with the plebes

Christmas Music is after PPW...the next chance to see family....though, I guess there really isn't Thanksgiving music!

The 3:1 ratio is a myth. It really is the 2/C (trainers) and 4/C that have a lot of interaction, especially on HELL-o night. HELL-o night has also been restricted to certain activities in the past.

Yep, the 3:1 ratio is definitely overplayed during the summer as a kind of intimidation thing. The firsties usually have better things to do than deal with training the plebes and the youngsters are more of the mentors during the ac year (during Hello Night all the youngsters are trying to do is say "hi" because it's still a bit odd for them to come back to the hall and see the other side of things)...the 2/C are the ac year trainers, and not even all of them are tough on the plebers...and as always, everything depends on the company and its leadership/training philosophy.

Fitrace: Hmm, you say it feels odd to come back as youngstars and see "the other side of things"... seems like you've gotten to experience that yourself

It is. VERY odd, in fact, but you get used to it right quick. I'd say it happens when you first get back to Bancroft after Herndon. The fact that you can walk is, in and of itself, a bit of a pleasant shock. :)

Sadly, however, you can quickly forget what it was like as a Plebe, and make poor decisions because of it. I did, and I wasn't alone. I am fortunate I learned the lesson quickly, but it and the years in the Fleet make me still wonder if the Plebe System causes more harm than good. That, however, is for a different thread.

Trust me Zaph, I know all about the "other side." It really never hit me that I wasn't a plebe until I came back for reform and saw all the new little plebers chopping around and calling me sir. Its kinda surreal for the first few days. But the last post was more politely teasing fitrace because hes class of 2010 and hasn't yet had the pleasure of seeing "the other side."

Oh, I hear ya. I was just backing you up, not criticizing. :)

The really neat thing about being a Youngster is that you're no longer a Plebe, but not yet a 2/C with responsibility for running Plebes or EE classes. You can pretty much just coast along for a year.

Provided, of course, you keep your grades up. :(
