I will not complete a physics class is high school.
Freshmen year I took college Biology, sophomore year I took Honors Chem, and junior year I took AP Enviro. Should I be worried that I haven't taken physics? Only 3 years of science is required at my high school so i'm nto planning on taking a science senior year. I am planning to major in Poly Sci. or business in college. Thanks

Depends where you are applying, but it seems to me that your bigger problem is that you are not taking any AP science courses other than Enviro, which isn't really considered to be at the level of AP Bio, Chem or Physics.

Well, if this helps, I didn't take any sciences APs at all, and just a basic algebra-based physics course, and got in to a top tier. No athlete either.

It probably doesn't matter considering what you're planning on majoring in. IT would be a problem if you were planning on applying to engineering school.

it does matter at top schools and it depends what major you are going in to.

Most colleges consider the rigor of the courses you took. Physics is considered one of the more rigorous courses so it may look like you were trying to lighten your load.

It depends. Some schools require it if you are applying to ANY science/math field. I mean, you are kinda rejected if you don't have it, unless your school doesn't offer it. Other schools don't care too much. I think most "good" schools would like to see it though.

It would be a lot easier if you told us what type of schools you plan on applying too. But personally, I don't think your chances are going to be harmed if you never took physics.

cant u take it senior year? thats what im doing

im taking it junior year, but my school doesnt offer science AP's so im self-studying the AP part of physics

I'm not applying to top schools. Loyola Marymount Univerity in LA, Suffolk, Umass Amherst, U San Diego, U San Fran, etc. I could take it senior year but I hate science. It's either Physics or AP Euro.. I would think Euro would be better for a Poly Sci. major.

oh, physics shouldn't be a problem for those schools.

With physics would be much better than w/o physics. but this is a free country..

eh, forget physics, I never took it:

9 - MYP Bio
10 - MYP Chem
11 - IB Bio I HL & IB Chem I HL
12 - IB Bio II HL & IB Chem II HL & IB Env. Sys. SL

see? no phys. needed (hate that stuff, so boring and engineering-ish)

It's fine. Physics is nice, and if you were applying for engineering (or maybe science), applying to a technically oriented school, or applying to a tippy-top college, it would be a plus. But as it is, I really don't think it'll hurt you.

I mean, at my school, most of the students who go to top colleges have taken physics...but that's mostly because most of the top students take physics. I do, however, know a few strong students who opted not to take it, and still got into top colleges.

My daughters friend took 3 years of science.. Biology, environmental science and chemistry..barely passing chemistry. Based on her chemistry, she didn't qualify to take physics. She was accepted into Hamilton college, not too shabby.

meh. take something equally challenging in what you intend to major in though.

Doesn't matter at all. I took Bio and Chem, and AP Enviro and every college I emailed up to Ivies said that with a history/polisci major interest not taking physics or a fourth science wouldn't be counted against me.

I think it's ok because you're not really majoring in something science related.

jdlex,

One thing you should consider if you want to do poli sci is statistics or some calculus. Good luck!
