Will ap stats instead of pre calc on my senior year transcript look bad / deter me in the admissions process? I’m not planning on majoring in anything math related btw
No, because you just answer your own question. AP calc is only for students who are going to the stem field!
Some social studies majors doing heavily quantitative work (statistical analysis) may need to take more advanced statistics courses using calculus. Philosophy (a humanities subject) majors will benefit from more practice in logical reasoning that is somewhat practiced in rigorous math courses.
While statistics is generally useful for everyone, it really is a good idea to complete precalculus in high school, so that you are ready for calculus in case you need it.
If you’re applying to top schools where most students will have AP Calculus (including non-STEM majors), you should at least have PreCalc.
If you are planning to apply to top-tier schools it could hurt as most will take calculus. If not, you are probably fine with AP Stat.
