My son has applied to a number of small Liberal Arts Colleges and we have submitted the CSS Profile and FAFSA. Not one has asked for additional information. Four years ago when my daughter went through this process I feel as though we had many requests for W2s and taxes.Does this mean he is likely not going to be offered a place at any of these schools?

Did you already submit W2s and taxes to IDOC?

I haven’t had any requests to do so!

You should first check your email to see whether you received an email from collegeboard IDOC to submit all tax and income documentation. If you haven’t received an email, contact IDOC at Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC);

I’m an international student and I’m not very sure how all you income documentation works but from what I know if you submitted your CSS profile you should receive an email from IDOC asking for documentation if it is required by the college. Don’t panic but the usual IDOC deadline is March 1st.

***NOTE

Many colleges don’t require documents until decisions have been made and I believe this might be your case. In this case you will not receive an IDOC email. Check this on the CSS profile website. There is a certain part that lists the institutions that you applied to that would require the IDOC. If there aren’t any, then you don’t have to send documentation.

Also just in case it’s best you also send a simple email of few sentences to the colleges asking whether they require the income documentation.

Or here’s an even better idea: Go to each college’s website and check the financial aid requirements!

Absolutely…check each school!

If you did the IRS retrieval tool when you filed your FAFSA the schools HAVE the ability to verify what was reported on your tax return with that. The DRT did NOT exist four years ago when your other child applied to colleges.

I have been on each school’s site to see if other documents are needed and submitted the requested forms to those that have them listed. My concern is that many schools say “additional documents by request” and we have received 0 requests! We only recently submitted our taxes and have not yet implemented the data retrieval tool. But thanks for the tip about IDOC-perhaps my son received an email from College Board that he didn’t realize was important because he is looking for emails from the colleges themselves. I’ll double check with him. Thanks again.
