I just checked my housing assignment. They gave me a dorm, but there's no roommate assigned to me. Has everyone already gotten their roommates yet? Will I get mine soon?

If you’ve been assigned one it should be listed. You could always leave it as is, enjoy the single and see if they assign one to you later. If you’re an incoming first year and want a roommate, call the housing office and ask them about it.

That’s odd… what’s the dorm?

My son, an incoming freshman, has a roommate.

Lucky you! I’m going to be in Koury next year and I have a roommate; The plus being it’s nice to know one person. Enjoy it if it stays the same and if it bothers you inquire about it :)

This does happen on occasion, but the odds are that UNC will place a roommate with you eventually. All freshmen are required to live on campus, plus you have the upperclassmen who do as well. They need the space, plus there are always roommates who don’t get along and have to be moved.

I have not been assigned one either. That would be awesome if I had a two person room to myself. haha. I am sure I just jinxed myself though.

We wish we had known single rooms were available although I’m still not clear located they are located. I think I saw a few in Koury maybe? At any rate my son’s original roommate decided to go elsewhere at the last minute so he teamed up with another HS classmate he really doesn’t know very well.

I bet you end up with a roomier before it’s all said & done. Housing will consider moves after the 2nd week of classes. Curious…what dorm were you assigned?

Sorry…my “smart” phone makes me look not so much!

mommydeerest, I’m friends with the son of Howard DaSilva who was in the movie Mommy Dearest.

SanfordDad— how interesting! Can’t beat those old movies! I spelled mine “deerest” because I have a family of Whitetail deer that frequent my wooded backyard…I “mommy” them by putting out food & water. Many find them annoying but I think they are beautiful to watch…my father was an avid hunter & spent many a holiday away from the family in pursuit of a prized Buck. Before he died, he became enthralled with just watching them…I guess it makes me feel connected to him somehow.

Koury doesn’t have singles. There may be rooms with only one roommate assigned now, but they are officially doubles and a new roommate can be assigned at any point. UNC has 89 single rooms available. With Craige, Morrison, and Ehringhaus being the only South Campus ones (I thought HoJo had some too, but the room inventory says they don’t). Officially freshmen can’t get singles though I do know a few that have.

Again, the odds of an individual who has no roommate at the beginning of the year, and is in a room that is officially a double, staying without a roommate for the rest of the year is extremely low.
