If I don't take the SAT IIs, do I even have a shot? I don't think I'll have time to take them. I'm freaking out. On the website they recommend SAT IIs, but they're not required.

I’ll be very interested in the responses you receive to your question; my son is interested in applying to UDel’s honors program, too, but he’d have great difficulty being able to take the SAT II’s given the scheduling constraints. We’ll see what comes in…

My D just started classes yesterday in UD’s honors program. She did not take any SAT IIs. We were told afterward that UD loves IB and my D was in a full-diploma program. I don’t know what anyone else’s experience was, but D was accepted to the honors program with a nice scholarship and she submitted only the SAT I.

Sorry, Zoosermom, my ignorance is showing…what’s “IB”?

International Baccalaureate (sp?). It’s an advanced HS diploma program originally created for the kids of people who moved around a lot from country to country - the kids could maintain their high level academics. Now, it’s been incorporated into HS throughout the US. Very rigorous program. In our HS, you can go either the AP route or the IB route. You can even take individual IB classes if you aren’t in the IB program.

There’s a good website - just google it.

My D’s school did that too and I think it’s a great option. I know several kids who put together a very special program for themselves by picking and choosing from the AP/IB menu. I think that’s brilliant.

I’m in the honors program…never took SAT II.

Daughter in honors…no SAT II.

d has taken ACT with score of 29…getting conflicting info from udel admissions office on whether or not she needs to take recommended SAT II’s for Honors College…one officer says no, ACT sufficient…another says she should take one SAT II…don’t want to mess up her chances but also don’t want her to sit for yet another test uneccessarily…can anyone shed any light on this…please!

Well, as above, a lot of people didn’t take them. But this profile of the current class will tell you if your daughter needs the extra boost <a href=“Honors College | Challenge. Enrichment. Community.”>Honors College | Challenge. Enrichment. Community.;

It doesn’t give the ACT breakdowns, but you could use the SAT equivalency.

Thanks! Any other feedback on this topic?

D is in Honors Program (Class of 2014) and did not submit SAT II. I think if your D is particularly strong in a subject and it’s relevant to the intended major then it could give her a boost if she scores well. Otherwise, not needed. Last year’s admitted Honors Program admitted a bulk (196 students-little less than half of 466) into the Honors Program meaning that ACT equivalent scores of those would have been in the 28, 29 and 30 range or 1950—2090 SAT range if I’m reading correctly. Of course, not everything is based on a SAT score. Other things are considered in the admissions process for any given year. However, UD is getting pickier too.
