I just found out that the SAT2 writing is not being offered anymore as of January 2005 (at least that's what I read, but correct me if I'm wrong, and I guess it's due to the fact it's already on the new SAT). I read that you should take three tests: one math, one free choice (already done) and writing. In place of writing, do I just take the literature test? Is it hard? When should I take it (time of year/grade-I'm a sophomore now), or should I even take it? Any other info would be great.

If you take the new SAT, then you only have to take two SAT IIs. If you took the old one, but haven't taken the Writing, then I have no clue what you're supposed to do.

With the merging of the SAT II Writing into the SAT I, the writing test, as you said, is no longer offered. Check to see if the colleges you are interested in will still require 3 SAT II's - some have said they will while others have cut the requirement to two. If they do ask for a third one, I don't see a reason that you would have to take the literature test. I would say to take the third test in something that you have studied in school and done well in (such as history or a foreign language or literature, if that's your thing)

If you've taken the new SAT: Take any three SAT IIs you want (preferably math and two others) - some colleges will accept two, but a lot of the "big names" still want three

If you've taken the old SAT w/out the writing SAT II : just take the new one too - that'll give you the writing score and most colleges will just take the best of the two for verbal(crit. reading) and math. Then take 3 SATiis - better safe than sorry.

so yeah..basically it's another free choice (though in some cases it's optional)

Do most colleges just want you to take two now? I hope that's the case so I only have to worry about the math. I think that if I had to take three, I'd go with World History (I think that's an SAT2), since I'm gonna be taking AP World next year anyway.

I know that Amherst and Vassar only want 2. I heard that Harvard stills wants 3, but I have no interest in Harvard.

what Unis require for 3 subs then?

Penn and Princeton still want 3- at least that is what they said at the info sessions.

At a small Penn session in the fall at my son's high school, the admissions rep said they were leaning towards 3 SAT IIs even with the new SAT I. However my son's guidance counselor called his Penn Admission Office and was told probably 2 SAT IIs would be required. In the 3/16 edition of the Daily Pennsylvanian, the article stated that Penn will accept the new SAT I with 3 SAT IIs or the old SAT I with
three SAT IIs. All this is VERY confusing!!

Williams just wants 2 SAT IIs now, as reported on their web page.
