no second language?

im taking french now and quite frankly its my lowest mark and im considering not taking it in grades 11 and 12. I can speak the language, but in terms of coursework and written exams I have much trouble.

My overall average will continually be lower, I know, if i keep going with the course. So should I drop in my last two years?

If not, how can i show proficiency in the language without taking the course through my school?

And to all those who say "keep with it," no thanks.

Essentially, Im trying to understand how much not taking a second language in grades 10 and 11 will count against me.

The rest of my courseload is heavy and filled with APs.

What are my chances at princeton without a second language in grades 11 and 12??will it hurt me?

I stopped taking Spanish after 10th grade and I still got in. As long as the rest of your grades, tests, and ECs are strong it won’t hurt you much. If you want to demonstrate your proficiency in French you could take the French SAT subject test or the French AP test.

Wait, you DON’T need a second language? Hooray!

No, you don’t need a second language. You will just have to take one at Princeton because you need a certain number (I can’t remember how many exactly) of language credits to graduate, unless you place out by demonstrating proficiency. You can also place out with a perfect score on an SAT subject test.
