As my friends are busily uploading pictures on their iPhones from Stanford Admit Weekend, I was wondering why Penn doesn't have a single Admit Weekend for their "prospies" like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and UChicago? I couldn't go to Penn Preview Days because I had already visited Penn in November and my parents weren't willing to shell out $600 for a 9-5 at Penn. If they had an overnight stay program I would have gone :/

Is it because Penn physically can't hold that many more people especially with upperclassmen living off campus?

You raise an interesting point. In my mind, this arises because Penn tries to shelter prospectives from certain aspects of college life. We do have an overnight program during the regular school year, but only students who live on campus are allowed to host, and prospectives are only allowed to come on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Interesting, no? Basically, they don’t want current students taking prospectives to frat parties and getting them drunk. I’m not sure about all of our peer institutions, but at least for MIT’s CPW I think that off-campus students are allowed to host too ([MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: “Your CPW Host”](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/misc/miscellaneous/your_cpw_host.shtml)).

If you end up coming here, you should get heavily involved with the Kite and Key Society. Work with Furda and the other people at admissions to help make this a reality…

Well, I think one reason there isn’t just a “single admit weekend” is because there are so many accepted students, because Penn is a bigger school, as compared to all the schools you mentioned. Campus would just be way too crowded, and it probably would take away from the experience.

I don’t know why we don’t have overnight stays (though sunkist raises a good point). Personally, my high school had a lot of people, so I just asked a friend if he wouldn’t mind hosting me. I’m sure other people do this as well…though this is obviously a problem for all the prospies who don’t know people at Penn before they go.

I think it is strange that Penn has an overnight “Multicultural Scholar’s Preview”, but not one for all admitted students, including the thousands who aren’t “diverse”. If they want us to feel like we’re all equally welcome to Penn, I think they should invite everyone, rather than a large portion of the admitted students that fit certain ethnic/geographical criteria.

Did you guys read my post #2, above? Penn is going to try out an overnight program for the Class of 2016. And you members of the Class of 2015 should let the Admissions Office know how important you think it is to have such a program. They’ll listen to you! :)
