No Student Employment

I'm currently a student at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and I'm looking at transferring to Davidson, but every website I've looked at says that there isn't any student employment on campus. How do you make money while at school if it's not offered by the school? Are there opportunities available off-campus, but nearby?

There are work studies in the library, student union, catering, computer labs, etc. and in some of the departments, but I think these are through financial aid packages. There are restaurants in the area, for the most part. Some retail possibilities within five miles of campus. Some people manage internships in Charlotte with banking, political organizations, etc., but you typically don’t see people going all the way to Charlotte for work.

I’m not a student at Davidson yet, but I do live about five minutes from campus. Davidson is huge on students working on campus, but as far as places around the school there aren’t many options. Davidson (the town) doesn’t allow chain businesses so there are really only 10-15 stores or restaurants close to campus.

My daughter will be an incoming freshman and was given work study as a part of her tentative financial aid package
