No study halls = torture?

For next year (junior year) I'll be taking two science classes worth 1.5 credits each so my schedule will be booked solid. My schedule this year wasn't too bad but it was nice to have 2 study halls in the week + an elective class that was pretty chill.

I guess this is a dumb question considering I chose my schedule and wanted this schedule but do you think it is good to have some type of study hall class?

Yes, but our school has an “8th period” that is usually study hall + teacher office hours, but also used for other school functions like assemblies, photos, etc. No actual classes are taught during it. I think it is very useful (except it’s at the end of the day, so I never actually do anything productive in it).

In sophomore year I didn’t have study hall and I won’t next year when I’m a senior. It’s okay. I’ve never had study hall both semesters in a year, so I always spend some time without it. It’ll be okay.

Umm… seriously, I’ve never had a study hall. It’s not a big deal.

A study hall isn’t necessary at all. Make every class your study hall, like I do. ;]

I’ve never had a study hall either. You’ll be fine.

My school offers no study hall. o.O

^

There is no such thing as a study period here. We do have a home room class every Tuesday but that is almost always school assemblies.

There’s no such thing as study hall or homeroom here. Though, we do have 15 minutes of mandatory silent reading MTWTH.

I had a study hall freshman year… I didn’t use it.

I doubled on sciences sophomore year and foreign languages. I took nine classes… No study hall. I was in school with sports, band, and classes from 8-6 every day… and I had no study hall. You don’t need a study hall.

I think the reason why having a study hall is good is because you have one less class to worry about and one more free period to get stuff from other classes. Its like a double win.

And I’m signed up for eight classes next year… no study hall. =/

I always used my lunch period and study hall to do some work down in the computer lab (Mostly personal projects). If you’re like me you won’t get any use out of it anyway, study hall is such a hard place to get work done in.

I agree with rachael525, make every class your study hall. I had study hall freshman year, but it was freshman year so I just used it to chill with friends. I didn’t it have it this year and it was all good. You should be fine.

I only had a study hall freshman year, and I didn’t need it then. Study halls aren’t needed, and look bad to adcoms. Just do homework after school, and you’ll be fine.

^They don’t necessarily look bad. In my school (and a lot of schools) it’s impossible to go without a study hall because of certain required classes that are just one semester long and there’s nothing for you to take in the next other semester. They might look bad if you actually take one out of desire instead of necessity.

at my school, you can’t take a study hall until junior year…
but, ive never taken one and don’t have one scheduled for senior year…
its not bad

What is this study hall you speak of?

Yeah, agreed, we don’t have study halls at my school.

Ah, just deal with it. I’ve never had a study hall, never will.

That does suck, i love my study. We end up having study year round because gym is required for all four years and we only have that three out of the seven days in our schedule. The others are used for study. Don’t worry though, just don’t procrastinate and you’ll do fine.

^ Oh god you go to school seven days a week? D: D:
