I didn't finish the two supplement essays. how does it hurt my chances of getting admitted? i thought they are optional (in fact they say the two essays ARE optional)...hmm... so i just submitted the common app. essay.

bump. i didn't do them either. -___-

please be aware that i am applying as an intl and am aplying for full cost fiaid from JHU...

For applicants using the common application the two Hopkins essays on the supplement are optional but highly recommended. If you chose not to include those two answers you will not be automatically denied admission. But that information will not be included in your application review whereas it will be included with many others.

As others have stated before, when I school highly recommends something there is a reason they do.

admissionsdaniel, i included my supplements, however, i still need to send in my art slide to accompany my first $10 writing(even though it stands perfectly well by itself). i probably won't be able to do so until at least a week later...will that be okay?

just send it. it is better to send it than not to, at least IMO. :)

hey haakonapp, did you say you're asking a full $ from hopkins?

i'm an intl, too. but i haven't filled out the fin aid form yet. do they ask you how much you can pay?

I haven't written either essay and I have a little over an hour left. Woe is I.

risingsakura, if you have not yet sent the information, do so by Tuesday, Jan. 17. We can not guarantee anything postmarked after Jan. 17 will be processed in time with your application.

xgyrosx - you should read this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=136397

admissionsdaniel, I will mail my correction on my common application essay by tomorrow then. My slide is still not produced yet...

You may send the slide after the 17th, but as Daniel said there is no guarantee.

if you really want those essays questions answered, why not make them mandatory instead of optional?

Under the Common Application guidelines it is recommended that additional essays not be required. Since we adhere to all Common Application policies, we make the additional essays optional and highly recommend them.

There are many required parts to an application and then recommended parts as well - it is each applicants choice what they want to do.

Dear Admissionsdaniel:

I just finished my social science research paper that I was working on for the past 6 months. Do you think that Hopkins will still accept a research supplement or abstract? I will send it via next day delivery.

The Admissions Office requested that all application materials be submitted or have a postmark date earlier than January 15, 2006. We will continue to accept application materials after that date but can not guarantee late materials will be added to an applicant's file prior to the Admissions Committee review.

Additionally, you should not send the complete paper but rather the research abstract.
