No Tours?

I was planning to visit Columbia not this weekend, but the following weekend (that of Dec. 10)...when I went to check times the only day of tours/info sessions they had listed in December was the 2nd. They don't have anything the rest of the month?! I had wanted to visit before the January application deadline... Could I still sit in on classes if I went that weekend?

Anytime after the 2nd you’re probably starting to run into exams and final grading and the professors and staff are going to be crazy busy. (Not to mention admissions will be dealing with releasing ED results.) I imagine that you won’t find too many classes on the weekends either way. The tour itself wasn’t that great, you could probably get the same experience by going to an informational meeting somewhere else/going online and reading about it and then bumping around campus on the weekend of the 10th.

Do you have any friends a year ahead of you at Columbia? The most informative experience for me was crashing their dorm and following them to classes…the professors generally don’t care about onlookers if you seem interested and ask nicely, even if the official policy is different. That’s what really made it clear to me that Columbia was the best choice for me, food for thought.

Yea, with finals coming up, its definitely a hectic time there. Plus the break is coming up and I don’t think they give tours during that period. I’d say e-mail the admissions office and ask.
