Dear XXX,

Thank you for your recent message regarding your application to Grinnell College. We are experiencing significant delays in processing applications and supporting documents for international applicants. We are processing documents in the order in which they were received. We are currently processing applications that were received on January 6 and credentials that were received on January 10. Please know that we are doing everything we can to get all of your materials processed.

Please rest assured that we will notify you by e-mail when your Preliminary Application or Common Application has been processed. This e-mail will also provide you with a username and password for a Pioneer Web account, which will enable you to monitor the receipt of your materials via the web. If you already have a Pioneer Web account and have just recently sent your application materials, it could take up to a week or two before we can finish processing your documents and update your Pioneer Web account. Also, when your application becomes complete, we will send a notification via e-mail.

You may notice, on your Pioneer Web list of missing documents, that some of the materials you mailed together have not been recorded as received. To expedite the process, we are separating documents to be coded in the system. If you know you already submitted/mailed any items on your missing document list, there is no need to telephone or email the office at this time, especially since that will further slow down the processing. We will notify you once your application becomes complete and you will be able to continually monitor your application on Pioneer Web.

We strive to keep you informed throughout the process, but it will seriously delay the processing if we stop to look for each item about which a student inquires. Please be patient with us throughout this busy time. We do look forward to reviewing your application materials.

They are maybe getting way more international applicants this year because I think they improved FA policies. This was something current students pushed for to increase the diversity of the student body. Great for my son because he thinks it's a real asset to have a high percentage of international students on campus. So do I. Last year internationals came close to comprising 15% of the entering class. This year, maybe it will be higher.

i still haven't received my pioneer web username or anything like that. i am kind of starting to get worried.

also, when are midyear reports due?

Grinnell must has received a lot of last minute applications and is flooded. Being a small school they may not have enough staff to keep up with the recent volume. D had all materials in by 1/12/08, got her pioneerweb code shortly afterwards. Everything was listed on the pioneerweb, including the SAT sent a year ago. I was impressed that they had kept up with her materials that had trickled in piece by piece since last spring (e.g. teacher rec from November, initial ap from January of this year). They have been great to deal with so far and are quick to respond to e-mail. Like the earlier posts, I'd encourage you to e-mail them (and ask about midyear report as well).

okay, thank you. and good luck to your daughter!

andreaa, please let me know about the midyear report deadline if you hear from the school..

Thanks.

sure, 20legend.

for the midyear report, do you know if an entire new official transcript is needed, or is it okay just to have my counselor write my grades on the report (there are only two grades)? i am just wondering because my school is ridiculously slow with transcripts - it takes at least ten days for them to make one for you. it would be a lot faster if i could just have him write it on there. anyone know?

andreaaaaaaa,
I think the common application midyear report is what Grinnell wants (and a final, formal full transcript after the year is complete) and I believe all it asks is that the counselor write in the new grades and answer a few questions.

Good luck to you. Grinnell seems like such a neat school.

oh, one more question - institution's own financial aid form? what is this and where do i get it?
