"probably not if you spell right r-i-t-e."
That cracked me up.

But seriously, of course you have a chance. Why be so pessimistic? You must know that you could get in.

URM with a 1500? you're in at UNC, possibly with significant money. if you'd rather have HYP over money at UNC (boooo), apply there too because you also have a good shot

An acceptance isn't based off of SAT scores alone, especially at UNC. That GPA is weak, but I'm sure you can get your guidance counselor to explain the difficulty of your coursework.

Do not assume that you're in, and do not assume that you'll be rejected. Work your butt off on the application and cross your fingers.

Right indeed! Are you "African" or "African-American?" What "state" are you applying from? Are you a citizen or resident alien or neither? Sometimes schools reject people who they think will go elsewhere. Applying EA is also helpful at Carolina. It shows strong interest. I would NOT apply RD.

As for your stats, they are good, particularly the SAT scores, but the gpa is borderline, given the extremely high quality of applicants that they continue to get every year and in fact whose stats continue to rise. 20 years ago, being in the top half of your class was a shoe in to Carolina. Now, its closer to top 10%.

What diversity besides your race will you bring to the applicant pool? Your obvious interest in math/science perhaps? What is your intended major, which they will ask for on the application.

My opinion is that you will get in. But even people with amazing stats get rejected. It happens with regularity to a lot of people.

Good luck.
