I got a letter today saying that my school is not covered by an interviewing committee. Does anyone have any statistics on the number of kids that are accepted without an interview?

I'm dissapointed - I feel that an interview would only help my chances. Oh well...

oh no! I haven't heard about an interview yet...that means I probably have a letter like that on the way! I'd like to know that information too!

It seriously doesn't hurt your chances at ALL. The admissions committee knows you didn't have the chance, so they'll base their assessment of your personality on your teacher recs. Don't worry...and good luck!!!

I don't think Yale interviews that large a percentage compared to a lot of other colleges, so it's probably not that big a deal. Out of my class I think there were 4 or 5 Yale applicants and I was the only one interviewed (we were all rejected). This was from an area where there were probably a lot of Yale alumni.

So if not getting an interview doesn't hurt your chances, what criteria is used for selecting candidates for an interview? My daughter's Yale interview was extremely informative. She was more positive after the interview.

Momray--At least in my area, they offer interviews on a first come, first served basis. The admissions office sends applicant information to the Alumni Schools Committee director (the local volunteer who coordinates interviews) and the director offers interviews as the applicant names come in the door. Therefore, those who send in applications early will be first to be offered interviews. I don't know how it's done elsewhere, but I don't think there is supposed to be any selecting of interviewee's based on any criteria.

In my letter with my ID to access decisions it stated that I would not be receiving an interview. However, tonight a man telephoned my house stating that New Haven contacted him, and they would like to know more about me. Has anyone had this happen. Does this mean that Yale is interested or does it just mean that they picked people to interview? I don't have amazing stats with AP's and stuff as I got a 30 on my ACT and have taken mostly college classes instead of AP's. What do you think the significance of the call and interview will be? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm dual posting this on a new thread as well.
