No yale interview

I got a letter today saying that my school is not covered by an interviewing committee. Does anyone have any statistics on the number of kids that are accepted without an interview?

I'm dissapointed - I feel that an interview would only help my chances. Oh well...

oh no! I haven't heard about an interview yet...that means I probably have a letter like that on the way! I'd like to know that information too!

Was this letter sent separately from thye one containing your PIN number and Eli account ID?

Yes, it's too bad. Yale doesn't give interviews in my area either.

yeah it was in my letter with my eli pin #

It seriously doesn't hurt your chances at ALL. The admissions committee knows you didn't have the chance, so they'll base their assessment of your personality on your teacher recs. Don't worry...and good luck!!!

well... it won't disadvantage you, but actually it might advantage ppl who did get an interview, so in the end, u might still get disadvantaged

Lots of people get in without interviews. Don't worry.

Don't worry about it, the guy who did my interview said from the start it matters very little, if anything. It's more to answer your questions.

Thats good to hear...i had really amazing recs so it might even be a good thing i didnt get an interview...

what area are you in that isnt covered?

well for me, I am in Nigeria. that explains my case.

I don't think Yale interviews that large a percentage compared to a lot of other colleges, so it's probably not that big a deal. Out of my class I think there were 4 or 5 Yale applicants and I was the only one interviewed (we were all rejected). This was from an area where there were probably a lot of Yale alumni.

So if not getting an interview doesn't hurt your chances, what criteria is used for selecting candidates for an interview? My daughter's Yale interview was extremely informative. She was more positive after the interview.

Momray--At least in my area, they offer interviews on a first come, first served basis. The admissions office sends applicant information to the Alumni Schools Committee director (the local volunteer who coordinates interviews) and the director offers interviews as the applicant names come in the door. Therefore, those who send in applications early will be first to be offered interviews. I don't know how it's done elsewhere, but I don't think there is supposed to be any selecting of interviewee's based on any criteria.

any body interviewed in Toronto yet?

In my letter with my ID to access decisions it stated that I would not be receiving an interview. However, tonight a man telephoned my house stating that New Haven contacted him, and they would like to know more about me. Has anyone had this happen. Does this mean that Yale is interested or does it just mean that they picked people to interview? I don't have amazing stats with AP's and stuff as I got a 30 on my ACT and have taken mostly college classes instead of AP's. What do you think the significance of the call and interview will be? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm dual posting this on a new thread as well.

I don't think the interview is that big of a deal if you aren't offered one. I didn't get one but I got a likely letter.

kakashi,
What's a likely letter? Are you a recruited athlete?
