New to this site and just wondering if there are any Noble and Greenough students on this board or anyone with experience with Nobles. (Nobles is a small, 5-day boarding school in suburban Boston).

Perfect fit for D. Hoping her chances are good (A's, 94% SSAT, tons of ECs).

Good luck to your D! Keep bumping up your question if you don't get a response. Much of the activity on this board has been focused on boarding schools. There has been some discussion about day schools. If you search "day schools" you may find a thread about the best day schools by region. You can also search for "Nobles and Greenough" and "Nobles."

Thanks for your responses. We're new to this whole thing and I've been searching for message boards to discuss ISL schools without much luck - this seemed the closest match. I appreciate any comments - maybe someone has a friend or cousin that absolutely LOVES Nobles?????

Everything seems fine on paper, I'm just concerned she'll be a victim of numbers since the classes have only 100 students and 50 are already there from middle school. Since they split evenly for boys and girls, we're looking at only 25 spots. Not good odds, I'm afraid.

Excellent references, super kid, very involved, great athlete. Their loss if they don't accept her. :)

Have you contacted the coach for her sport? If she is good and wants to play at BS, definitely contact the coach. They have a lot of pull with admissions.

Hi,
We looked at Nobles for our son, but decided it wasn't a good fit. Don't know anyone personally going there but have heard of kids who love it. My son was contacted by one of the coaches there about applying, not sure how much pull they actually have though.

He is applying to other day schools in the area. It looks like all the schools in the area are very competitive. We are lucky in that he is already at one of the ISL's so he has that school to fall back on if he doesn't get into one of the others. His current school isn't the best fit for him though so we have our fingers crossed.

While my daughter loves all sports, her favorite (and best) sport currently has an opening for a new coach (just our luck).

mamom - may I ask why your son wants to transfer from the school he's in - what about the "fit" isn't right. The only reason I ask is because we're actually pretty happy with our public schools and Nobles is sort of a whim for us so I'm not fully versed in all the different aspects of ISL schools. If you don't want to respond that's fine. Just trying to get as much information as possible. Thanks.

After 2+ years at his current independent school we feel our son would do better in a more academically rigorous environment. At his current school, the kids aren't pushed to reach their full potential and it is OK to get C's. It is very frustrating to have the teachers sending that kind of message to a kid who got 99% overall on the SSAT.

A relative of mine attended Nobles' official rival school, and saw this T-shirt: (on the front) Nobles. (On the back) Because not everyone can go to Milton. (Old joke, but couldn't resist).

Nobles is a top school no doubt. Kids love it there and it appeals to a very broad range. Very popular. Applications are up even more after Nobles basketball star Ayla Brown also became an American Idol hit. I don't know for sure but from talking with families there they do take average academic kids who are great at something else important to the school. Why not try?

Ha Ha! Maybe you'll have to duke it out on some athletic field somewhere....

No seriously, Milton is awesome - you're lucky if you're able to go there. Nobles was the best "fit" even though we like Milton a lot too. Now begins the waiting game.

Nobles has wonderful athletics and most likely the academics to match.
Just there for a game a few weeks ago and loved the gym. Some other
buildings looked newish too. I looked at the school a couple of years ago
for my d but she did not want to board and we are not in driving
distance. She is at another ISL school now. MA Mom - don't think twice
if your s is lucky enough to be accepted, it is a fine school. IMO,
the ISL - and other top NE privates - are only going to get more and more
difficult to get into. I tell my d this all the time, so she really appreciates
what she has. Your s will feel the same about Nobles. Best of luck!

Don't have any personal knowledge, but I was at a Squirt hockey game last night talking to a Nobles parent about the school. He is also a Nobles grad, and has some board role there. Is thrilled with the school and his son's experience.

Funny, saw the Milton comment. My sister-in-law is a Milton grad and has the same sneering attitude about Nobles. Must be cultivated, don't imagine Milton kids actually know anything at all about Nobles.

Again, all hearsay, but the Milton boosterism cracks me up.

My daughter has a friend who attended Nobles and she loved it. Both girls (women) are in college now, and the Nobles grad attends Johns Hopkins.
If I were you, I would take a look at where their recent graduates matriculate because I’ve always heard that the academics are solid.
