other information

low income family only makes about 52k a year

neither parent has a degree

i am a california resident

top 10% in class of 750

Hmm, well, being a Cali. resident certainly helps, but I would have to classify this as a high match/low reach, mainly due to the low UW GPA. IF your essays are passionate and eye-opening, though, I think you might have a good shot. Best of luck!

ACT is looking good, and so do extracurriculars, but GPA is the only thing that might be a little low for berkeley. But I heard they really take into consideration personal statements, so yeah, I think you’re pretty set. If there’s any way that you can get your ACT score to 34 or 35, I think it’ll make a big difference by balancing out your GPA (not that it’s BAD) I just think that the school is so competitive, so every point will benefit you. I’m pretty confident that you’ll get in though.

I think its a somewhat reach ,but your essays and personal statements and essays should make up for anything lacking in other aspects of your application.
Please chance back for BC and UVa

I want to say you have a good chance, but I visited Berkeley a few months ago and talked to an admissions officer (actually, I’m not sure if she was an admissions officer, but she works in the admissions office and talks to people about the application process and such), and she basically told me that the UCs care about numbers more than anything. The personal statements don’t matter that much; unlike other private schools, if you write good ones, they’ll help, and if they are completely awful, they’re neutral. GPA is pretty freaking important. Even the kids who end up going to Davis or Santa Barbara often have weighted GPAs of 4.00.

Nonetheless, I think you do have a decent shot. Good luck!

I would totally say that you have an amazing chance. The only bad part is that Berkeley can be really unpredictable and somewhat inconsistent with their acceptances. I applied but my chances are not half as good as yours, that’s for sure!

Since ur a CA resident i think you’ll get in. (ACT score is like a 2250 in SAT1 … CA resident… problem with family… you have enough to get in). I’d siggest u apply to only UCs tho… since there is a rough quota of about 90% for in-state in the UCs… other good unis… maybe-maybe not coz of ur GPA but UCs I feel YES to UCB UCLA and all the other great ones.

I think you have a decent shot. It’s probably a high match-low reach. Just write a really good essay and get good rec’s and you will improve your chances. Good Luck!
