Noise Cancellation Headphones

does anyone have these? are they effective?

worth buying for college...?

I've used them once...I don't think it's really worth it unless you have a lot of money to burn. There's always a quiet place to study, whether it be the library or when your roommate isn't there.

were they fully effective? was all possible noise drowned out... if someone talked really loudly (even yelled) can you hear them?

Yes, these headphones do work well. Read reviews on cnet, amazon, tomshardware, etc. Expect to pay ~100 for a decent one. Avoid Bose.

They are effective at drowning out all other noise...

Check out these ones: http://www.etymotic.com/default.aspx
They seem pretty good.

yeah im strongly considerig buying these for college... it seems like a really good investment

The thing with these are that most drown out a lot of the ambient noise, but not all sounds entirely. If you're in a car and hear the rumbling sounds, the headphones will reduce the noise. But they'll only work somewhat well if you're hearing people talk or yell around you. Bose are overpriced.

yeah, i thought noise cancelling headphones were designed so that noises like people talking and stuff would be audible. Maybe I'm wrong.

i thought that they were meant to drown out people talking... if they arent, it doenst seem that useful for a dorm room

why avoid Bose? I do not have their noise cancellation headphones, but their other speakers at my house are very very good.

yeah i also have many bose products

I got the Bose ones for Christmas and I returned them... the noise cancellation is good only for certain noises. Talking is not one of them. Its more for the noise of trains, planes, cars, etc.. I returned them and got a pair of other Bose headphones and I like them better. The Seinhauser (sp?) I've heard are also good...

my friend got $300 bose noise cancellation headphones...he has a $2000 watch..too. so if u have the money then go for it.

i have the Sennheiser ones: PXC-250. You don't have to have a lot of money. I got money for about $94 on the internet. If you shop smart, you should get a good deal.

I have had my pair of aiwa hp-cn5's since 2001. Relatively inexpensive, they fold up so they can be compressed without breaking them (a major plus if you keep headphones in your backpack when going around campus or travelling). They tend to block out most noise when i'm outside, in the library, etc - some very loud noise will get through albeit muffled.

The newer model is the hp-cn6, which runs around 45-50$. not as good quality as the 200-300$ headphones, but certainly a lot less money.

:)

The Bose (non-cancellation variety) at $150 sound wonderful and are very light weight and comfortable as well. They are sleeker looking than most over-the-ear headphones and don't give you the appearance of wearing giant earmuffs! Even though they are not for noise cancellation, they block out most regular ambient noise.

if you are going for something cheap, go for earplugs. They work wonders and are even comfortable while you wear them during sleep.

Bose=piece of junk. Triports are considerable, but QuiteComoft is horrible.

I recommend Etyomic Research ER-6i Isolator. It is the best one out there. I think its now around 100 $$. Plus they got black colors now.

We have the Triports, and like them very much.
