Is anyone else in this gruesome boat with me? I recieved a nomination in early January and Im dying to hear from the academy. I see so many posts about people being admitted, which is awesome, but just wondering if someone else is looking at this board in the same situation. Please let me know about your grades, SATs, activities so I can compare with those already admitted. Thanks :)

Any update yet?

Nope still nothing...

It's ok - don't sweat it. The timing of the Nomination is not flexibe, i.e. it has to be done by January, but the appointment can come as late as March into April.

You're right up there, I think, academically - but it's really the whole person concept that they look for...

Ok, right now, I've called the AFA application status telephone # and they say my file is complete and I am officially nominated. By saying my file is complete, do they mean all the necessary information is in or they have finished reviewing my application and have made a decision? Also, does the Air Force Academy always call the senator or congressman's office before they notify you? Im sorry so many questions but I'm so nervous about hearing back. Any info would be great.

I'm in the same situation, I think it means that they have all of our stuff...but I dont think it necessarily means that they have completed the review of everything yet.

"Also, does the Air Force Academy always call the senator or congressman's office before they notify you?"

I have the same question...

As far as I know, yes. I got the call from the congressman's office on Thursday, and just got the packet in the mail today. From what I've read here it's the same for everyone.

Good luck guys. Believe me when I say I know how stressful it is.

Just received an appointment! Big fat envelope in the mail yesterday! Yeah!

Just got mine yesterday too buddy!! Congrats to you and I'll see you June 30th!! Oh yeah, does anyone know if there is a way to buy boots w/o going to orientation, i mean, what style of boot do they wear at AFA?

-Academyguy

Call your ALO and ask him. Mine said he'd take me down to a base to let me buy some if I decided against going to the orientation. The ALO's know where to go and what to get, and I'm sure yours'd be more than willing to help.

CONGRATULATIONS to both of you, future classmates of mine (most likely). Celebrate on a job well done, and start counting the days until IDay. :)

Congrats to all who got the envelope, have faith for those that didn't yet. It ain't over till the fat envelope comes! I just signed up for a couple 5K's and a short triathlon to help me get motivated to run/train. I'm going to the April 25/26th orientation, staying a day before and a day after with parents to run a little bit to see how bad altitude can be. I come from sea-level basically so it's kind of unsettling right now. As far as the boots...I heard the same thing. You can get someone in the know and they will help you out.

Concerning the boots, I'd definitely recommend getting them ahead of time so you're not trying to break them in at the beginning of BCT. If you go to a local base, you can get what you need. Just be sure you get the same boots that are issued here or you will be made an example of when you get here (not in a positive way) and you'll have to get the correct ones here on top of that.

Regarding the altitude, the first few days is when everyone usualy gets aclimated, and if it's any consolation, there will be very few people who are used to the altitude here during that time period so you won't be alone. Unlike in the past, I don't even think you do physical activity for the first few days here anyway.

Thanks for the info, I called an admissions counselor at AFA and they said that we need boots "MIL-B-44152" that can be purchased at the clothing sales store on base. When we went to our base (which happens to be an Army base), however, they said that the Army is phasing out that style of boot (which happens to be all leather) and is issuing a new style boot to all new soldiers. Do you know if AFA is doing the same? The new Army boots looked more comfortable as they had a mesh/canvas type material on the sides...making them look very similar to jump boots. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated especially if anyone here is actually at the academy and can verify that the boot style will (or wont) change in the future.

I'll see what I can find out by asking someone in the uniform replacement store sometime this coming week (if I can find a chance in the midst of all the pre-Spring Break crunch time stuff). However, like eveyrthing here, everything's always subject to change. I'll see what I can find out though.

By the way, I'm in the class of 06 here. I'll be one of the cadre for 1st BCT this summer.

Awesome, thanks a million for your help UNcynical and I'll look forward to seeing you this summer!

UNcynical...great info...like the honesty...keep it coming!

This is more delayed than I had planned on, and for the I apologize. However, I wanted to let you know that the man at the uniform replacement store (who also deals with footware) said that 09 WILL be issued a different boot than in years previous. He said he didn't know exactly when this would take effect but that 09 would indeed get them. I hope that helps!
