I have recently received the letter stating that I have become a candidate for West Point class of 2012. Now I am trying to proceed with the nomination process. Within the candidate file, there are templates in which to send to state senators and local representatives. Should I simply send these letters to the necessary individuals?

Yup, and they will send back the application/nomination form(s). I have sent 3 three letters so far and received 1 app form back. I was told i will receive the other 2 in late summer.

Look at your member of congress's website--Most likely there will be info there or a link that will tell you how that particular senator or Representative handles the nomination application process. If you have questions after doing that, contact their office directly and have your questions answered. Follow the directions for each individual MOC, they will be different from one another. You do not need to use the templates. Some MOC's will ask that you send a letter requesting a nomination application, others will let you submit a request on line. Good Luck!

While the pre-written letters are a good example, and by no means a bad choice, I would recommend visiting the MOC's websites and using their preferred means of application.

However, with the VP nom, the following link will direct you to the letter that the VP office requests that candidates use to apply for a nomination:
