I received a letter from one of my Senators yesterday saying that my interview was scheduled for next week.... Nov 4th I believe. I was wondering what do I wear for the interview? Do I get interviewed by a committee and if so how many people? Also, do you guys have any tips on what to do/say/bring to the interview? I received a letter of assurance as well as a "qualified" paper from dodmerb. Should I bring these to the interview or no?

I realize that some of these questions may have been asked/answered before...but considering A LOT of interviews will take place in the next month or so, this will help out lots of candidates. Thanks in advance.

Suggest you dress in a manner consistent with the importance of the appointment and nomination. Most male candidates will wear coat and tie. Women will wear a conservative dress.

Most member of congress interviews are with committees although one of our son's interviews was with a single staff member. Often time the committee contains current and former military officers.

Questions will range from the basic "Why do you want to attend the academy?" to "Why should we give you the nomination rather than someone else?" Our son was asked if he would follow an illegal order;how he felt about the Iraq war; and why he wanted to be an officer in the armed forces.

While I don't think you need to bring the actual LOA or DODMERB paperwork, I think it is worth mentioning to the group that you have an LOA and have passed the DODMERB. In fact, you should make sure your MOC coordinator knows about those items before the interview so that it can be included in your candidate package given to the interview committee members.

I appreciate your reply, its helpful to have some kind of an idea of what to expect than to be in the dark. I think that I am going to hold a mock interview with my parents or teacher just to get some practice. Its weird I got an interview so early considering his deadline is tomm. Thanks again.

I agree with aspen regarding dress. A suit or coat and tie with appropriate shoes. Another big question you may be asked is why you want to pursue West Point rather than another service academy. Also, what are your plans if you don't receive a nomination?

Since you asked what to bring, I'd suggest a copy of your resume if you have one. That's what people do for a job interview. Just make sure you have several trusted friends/relatives proof it before the interview.
