hey, just curious guys, where do you think it is hardest to get a nomination, meaning, which state has the most candidates?

i heard that California is a pretty competitive state, thought i think its better to judge competitiveness by district.

Anyone ever heard of the competitiveness of North Carolina's 5th district? or any district in NC for that matter?

I concur with astrodude about judging by district instead of state- my California district wasn't too competitive: only 15 people were trying to get a nomination and I managed to walk away with two principle nominations to USMA and USNA.

The senatorial nominations are a lot more competitive however. I didn't even get a call to schedule an interview, but maybe because I already had two principle nominations.

Texas is pretty bad...

Competitiveness in California is fairly high, I can attest to it. District-by-district, I don't know, but I do know that only a few people (maybe 20? 25?) applied for noms to USMA, and I managed to snag one, but my district was the exception. As for senatorial noms, that's up in the air. I know a guy who got a nomination from Senator Feinstein in December, and then there's me, who got a letter in the mail from her today congratulating me on my mine, a full 3 weeks after getting an offer of admission. I guess the harder decisions come through later, so keep watching the mail box. :)

I think it's fair to say that as a rule, more populous states/districts will be more competitive than less populous ones, and that senatorial nominations will be harder to come by than congressional ones. Just my two cents.

Yes, California is hard depending on what district you live in. I lucked out because I was one of the 10 or maybe less to apply for a nomination in my district. I got one to Annapolis, West Point, and Air Force all from the same congresswoman. On the other hand, I did not even get called back for an interview from either of my senators. Just take what you can get.

And the source of your nomination won't matter at all once you're there.

Indiana 7th had one applying for USMA- me! But I got in off of a JROTC Nomination.

I have heard that NJ 12 is very difficult...but then again that might be my Congressman and MALO trying to make me feel proud of myself.

frogger, where are you from? I got my nomination from Congressman Holt as well.
