Well, as close to automatic as it gets (unlimited presidential nominations available). Of course you have to be in USNA Admissions top 100 (presidential nom) graces to receive an appointment from one.</p>
<p>Exactly. There are an unlimited number of Presidential nominations. It is my understanding that as long as the candidate meets all requirements, the Presidential nomination is automatic. </p>
<p>The difficult part is that a maximum of 100 appointments can be based on Presidential nominations. Thus, indeed, one must be in the top 100 of the Presidential nominees in the eyes of USNA to be appointed based on a Presidential nomination.
