taffy,

I think this will be an interesting story for many of the applicants. And my curiousity is taking over. Can you share the reasons for your decision?

taffy,

It appears that I was in a similar situation. Having been swamped by numerous college applications, I applied for my nomination a little too late. I was ranked 8th by my congresswoman despite my high SAT scores, grades and extracurricular activities.

That nomination put me on the national waiting list. Fortunately, a spot on the civil prep program was opened for me when admissions realized that I had a JROTC nomination that my SAI neglected to send it in (my headmaster had to send it over personally - late, of course). With this convoluted episode in my life over, I am now attending New Mexico Military Institute and will be attending West Point in June.

I guess the most important thing to remember is to take care of all the application items early. It also helps immensely to keep close tabs on your files and not being afraid to call admissions when you think something is wrong.

Good luck and hopefully I'll see you at Beast next year.

University of Illinois is just awesome. Spending about 7 hours a week on ROTC stuff is about all the military I really need during college. The social life here is way better than it would be at an academy. the ladies are gorgeous, while the west point ladies were... uhh. ROTC is a fine way of earning a commission and I feel I am capable of getting a pilot slot through af rotc here. One guy in my class wants to go to the academy next year and still pursue a pilot slot. I will commission a year ahead of him if he does that. Also, I've made great friends here and don't see myself leaving for a few more years. Basically, I know I will be much happier staying here and continuing with rotc than going to the zoo, and I feel I will end up at UPT in either path.

And you get to eat at Potbelly..

Go Illini - Beat Navy! or something like that.
