For certain scholarships, like Comcast, Robert Byrd, where nomination is required by high school principal, what did you guys do? Did you ask your principal if they could nominate you? I want to, but it seems kind of unethical.

i don't think there is any problem with talking to your principal or GCto be nominated. my D asked about several, including the byrd. no one from her school had applied for the byrd the year before and she was the only one who applied in her year. she won. if she hadn't inquired, she wouldn't have won it. don't worry--they'll let you know if they are going to nominate others.

The Byrd requirements vary from state to state. In Texas it is numbers-driven so my daughter filled out a simple application (the toughest question was what congressional district you live in) and she turned it in to the school administration. They narrowed the field down to the top 3 candidates and submitted those to the state.

I would definitely approach the principal about nominations - it's not unethical, it shows initiative. The principal is not obligated to nominate you.
