Nomination

How long does it usually take to get word on whether or not you have received a congressional nomination? The due date was Nov 1.

Did you have an interview yet?

With my Laison Officer?- Yes

No I meant with your congressman. Did you mean the due date for sending stuff to your congressman was Nov. 1st? I have heard that they have to report their actual nominations to the Academy by January 31st, and that they usually issue a press release sometime in march that says who they nominated. I think most contact you though well before that to let you know. I haven't had any of my interviews with my MOC yet (I haven't even heard anything from them about the interviews).

Each MOC is a little different. My son's congressman said he will notify him by Dec. 20th but all his interviews were this past weekend. I think you can safely ask at your interview. Here's a nice tip -- at the end each MOC's committe asked my son (Benjo6 by the way), "do you have any statement to add or question to ask." He informed them that should he receive a nomination, he has decided that he would immediately accept it." They seemed to really appreciate that. Obviously, you cannot do this if you are unsure but I think most people posting here are pretty sure. Best of luck!

slight correction -- you don't accept a nomination. He said he would accept an appointment if he received one. Sorry.

The nominations will also be posted on the candidate information site, although I do not know how timely the postings are.

Hmmm. I just called my congressmans office, because I had sent the stuff in a long time ago and never heard anything back regarding their recieving it or wanting any further information. The guy I talked to said that they "don't have my file here at this office", but that he will "check at the Washington office". He also said that I should've gotten something back letting me know they got it. This leads me to believe it didn't get there. The deadline for request submissions is Thursday, November 24th. If somehow they didnt get my letter, do you think think that this would prevent me from competing for a nomination from this source? I mean, I sent it with 3 other letters to the senators and the vice pres, and all three got to their respective locations. I'm extremely worried now that since the deadline is on Thursday, and there is a chance that they don't have me on file, that I will lose the chance to compete for a nomination from my congressman, especially now that I have an LOA.

Yikes...thats kinda scary!

Did you keep copies of all the things you sent to their office? If so, i would wait a day or two more and see what they say. If they dont have it, i would overnight priority it to them.

Since you have an LOA (jealous), it might not be that big of a deal since wont they be giving you a nomination of some sort anyways (i assume this is your rep we're talking about, not a senator?). If you didnt have an LOA i would deffinately think this would be a problem.

Again, keep at them and make sure you get answers! Best of luck dude. Dont forget, the Academy wants you!

I unfortunately did not keep copies of everything that I sent. I am indeed extremely scared that this will prevent me form getting a nomination from him, and yes it is My Congressman, not a senator. I really hope that the fact that I have already recieved an LOA has some sort of impact on this situation if it turns out to be a problem. I will be sure to keep after them, but the guy I talked to said he would get back to me about the interviews and stuff (I don't know what this means, but even after he told me they don't have my file, he gave me the date for the interviews and told me to write it down for when he calls back.)

Hey hornetguy, you didn't happen to receive a letter in the mail from Senator Cornyn saying yes/no for a nomination today did you? I didn't and was wondering maybe H-town gets mail from Dallas quicker than Lubbock.

Patriot -- don't panic. When we had a communication mix-up, we literally walked material over to our senator's NJ office. they really appreciated it and the face time helped. Rather than fedexing it, are you close enought to be able to do that?

Also, remember that you only need one MOC to include you in their list of 10 nominations. It should really not be a problem because you have an LOA. Also, we had another mix-up about the interview time. We simply waited at the Senator's interview location (for 2 hours) until a spot opened up. Again, the LOA goes a long way. You'll be fine Cadet!

Thanks. I feel a little comforted knowing that the LOA could possibly ameliorate any confusion/problems that arise. I am close enough to get the stuff to his office, but I didn't keep any copies and I may not be able to get the teacher recs again in time for the deadline (This Thursday).

No mail in H-town today. LOL, its late now that I replied. I assume it should come tomorrow, mail isn't that slow. ;) Hope to hear good news from you tomorrow.

I think I'm going to be fine in terms of this whole fiasco with my stuff not getting to my congressmans office. I'm going to rush back to my high school today to get everything that I need (Thankfully, all my teachers kept copies of their recommendations), and then tommorow I'm going to drive it over to my Congressmans Office.

Make sure you get there early b/c some close early on the day before T-giving. I used to work for one so I know. Call ahead if possible.

Yeah, I'm going to call them later today (around noon). Hopefully I'll be able ot get there in time.

THANK GOD! I just got back from my congressmans offices, I was able to JUST get everything ready in time. The deadline is tommorow, and thier office closed at 12 today, so I got it in the nick of time. I actually talked to my congressman for a second, he was leaving his office as I was giving it to the secretary that handles the nomination stuff. It was pretty cool.
