I applied for the presidental nomination and received it! I may apply for the jrotc nomination if my school is a unit with honor school; I'm turning all my stuff in and I'm super busy. I can't apply for the seneator/ congressional nominations or vice pres because the deadlines are up. Which I missed on purpose because I don't have a high enough SAT Math score or ACT score; I was wondering if I could get some nomiations from Guam or Maritania Samoa etc. Has anyone else ever wondered about that and will West Point allow it? I live in Florida but if they let me apply for thei nomination I'll definitely take it I just don't know if West Point will?

But those are the least of my problems and parents STILL won't take me to Tampa for the FREE DODMERBG exam. I just don't understand it! I'm doing ok in school but if I don't do good as I want I'm just going to give up this full schlorship to TCC/FSU and enlist for 2 years and apply again. So now I'm saving up money and trying to get rides down to Tampa probably will hire a Taxi service which will cost about $200 to get down there and back. Life sucks sometimes but this is my life and I'm alomst 18 so I'll do as I FEEL!

Are you going to Macdill for the DoDMERB exam? You might want to call dodmerb up and ask to go through Concorde, their civilian contractor, which might have an office closer to you.

As far as enlisting, I would rethink that. You can still go the route of FSU with your scholarship and reapply next year or the year after. Think of it this way- the more years of college you have under your belt, the greater advantage you will have over everyone else.

I live by Tampa. If I may ask, where are you from?

Don't give up a full scholarship. I agree with Soylent, if you don't get into West Point, go to college and appy again until you get in. Mean while, good luck with your application process.

Can't do it.

Federal Law says you must be a legal resident of the state and/or Congressional district from which you seek a nomination.

Do you have any friends who drive?? Certainly someone will drive you to Tampa so you don't have to pay a taxi?? Give your friend gas $.

Honestly, I am concerned that you "let the deadlines pass" because of SAT scores. How can you expect to get into the academy with low scores? The presidential nom will go to a top contender...you seem to be looking for a back door into the academy. Why aren't you doing everything you can to get every nom you can?

I'm from Floral City and I got my friends to take me on the 12th of December; I'm not going to Macdill to another medical facility. I'm not looking for a backdoor into the academy and I'm not giving up my full schlorship to enlist; I was really upset when I wrote that above. Mom3boys you don't understand all of the situation the deadlines are very strict and my parents DONT WANT ME TO GO; the deadlines were like October and November and I just got a job on November 17th...so now I can pay for them. My scores are middle the math portion is low, Luigi thanks alot my MALO told me pretty much the same thing. I sent in the bulk of my admissions file now all I have to do is keep my grades up, take the SAT/ACT again and do the CFA.

Does anyone know how long it should take after recieving a nomination for it to appear online. I recieved my nomination at the end of november and it still has not shown up online.

Would someone please explain the nomination process? How many are there? What are the sources other than the house of represenatatives and senators? Is it different for each state or member of congress? If you don't get one from one of your state reps, are there other ways to get them? If they nominate 10, who goes? How do they tell you? I'm just looking for a break down. Thanks.

You can also apply for a Vice Presidential nomination, but I think the deadline for that has passed. If one of your parents is career military or active duty military, you can apply for a Presidential nomination. I think you can get a Presidential nomination if you yourself are in the military. You can also get a nom from an ROTC unit you're part of (and I think a nomination from your CO if you're on active duty). If one of your parents happens to be a Medal of Honor recipient (not likely!) you automatically receive admission to the Service Academies as long as you are academically, medically and physically qualified. There might be other nomination sources but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Certain cadets are eligible for specific ones.
Everyone is eligible for Ea. Sen and Cong if they have openings. Also available for the Golden ticket VP (someone may correct me if I am wrong, but VP is allowed the same # = 5 at the acad at 1x).
Military children and retired military children can get a pres. There are unlimited #'s given out, but only 100 that can be appointed, that is why they apply for all of them. Yes, it is possible for them to have 4 noms. It is also poss. for them to only get the pres. Many MOC's see that they have the nom and will not consider them for moc, rare but it does happen
The Scretary of Defense is allowed ( 85 ? )...I have been told from an old post these are held for active duty, makes sense the pres is for dep. not active
The Secretary of the "Insert Service Branch" also is allowed to nom. Again, I believe it is for AD only...might be wrong!
There is also honor ROTC, don't know the numbers for that
The academies can also appoint directly from their own pool.

Now who goes...
The principal nom must be accepted by law.
Many MOC's do not give a "rack and stack" and leave it to the acad. to determine. Thus, even if you have the nom, only 1 can go from that 10, unless they have another nom who can use i.e. pres. or another MOC

In the end that is why the more noms the more chances for an acceptance.

I would also look at the website for last years accp. breakdown...GPA, SAT, ACT, etc. it can at least help you see where you are standing.

Let's say you have an LOA for sports, get a nom, but you might actually get your appt. from Super b/c they moved it around to get another student in from that MOC, not saying yo aren't worth the MOC, but in the end of the day, the appt is more important than where the nom came from. It's about getting the best class in giving the acad freedom to get it done.

Might be wrong, but all of the Medal of Honor children are still too young to apply. (Last one's kids are only @ 11, previous last 2 did not have children ... know that b/c we lived in the same neighborhood when 1 of them died, our neighbor was a Seal who went into do the rescue) They deserve everything and anything this nation can give them

Just a note any children that are currently eligible for Medal of Honor, received the nom because the parent happened to receive it. The last ones were all given posthumously.

Sorry for the confusion. I am fully qualified but do not yet have a nomination. I had my last interview yesterday with my house of representatives member. If I am nominated, does that mean I get an appointment, or is it still possible that I don't get in?

There were 474 candiates that were triple q'd with noms, that didn't get accepted to the academy for the class of 2011. Sorry! Don't fret yet, just make sure you keep your grades up and do what you are doing so if and when the appt. comes you will be able to accept it and not lose due to senioritits!
