Nominations 2010

I have talked to a couple of people who claimed to have already recieved presidential nominations for 2010 but i didn't believe them. Does anyone have any type of nomination for USNA 2010

They started taking apps from July 1st and the deadline is Jan. 31st, so I highly doubt any nominations were handed out, but not too sure. But they did say unlimited number of nominations were available, so it could be on rolling basis or something.

On my candidate package online under nominations, it listed presdiential recieved july 29, 2005. Is this is confirmation that they have recieved my request or an actual notice of recieving a nomination?

Sandie,

Congratulations! That's how we found out about our son's Presidential Nomination. Basically, he received the nomination as soon as they received the paperwork, so that could be the situation with you, too. Is the balance of your application complete? Remember to still apply with your MsOC since you need to pursue every avenue for nomination. The appointment can come from any of these sources, and you want to make sure that you have covered every possibility since only 100 (Smallwood) are granted appointments through the Presidential nominations. It is a time for congratulations, but not complacency!

You definitely have a leg up! We'll be thinking good thoughts for you!

If you have received a nomination, why would you continue to try to get another one? In our state, all of MOC stated to let them know if the candidate received a nomination from anyone else so not to waste their nominations by giving out one to someone who already recieved it.

Same thing here, Oregon Mom. All my nomination forms ask me to list all the places I'm applying for a nomination.

Oregon Mom,

Of course, follow the directions of your MsOC. That said, an unlimited number of Presidential Nominations may be given out, while only 100 appointments will be awarded on them. OTOH, (and you probably already know this, but for those who don't) MsOC may have 10 nominees for each vacancy, with the academy making the decision to admit anyone on the list. (Read the Competitive District Thread). So having multiple nominations is not like taking up 2 or 3 appointments that others could have. It just means that you have a backup if you don't get in on the Presidential. I am certainly not an expert or anything, but the catalog does say "...applicants should apply to all sources for which they are eligible."

Dictatoranna, I respectfully submit that listing all the places you are applying for a nomination is different from not applying after you have a Presidential. This would actually show how much determination you have to be admitted, and allow the MsOC to coordinate the process.

I think it would be imprudent not to apply to your MsOC. Just my opinion. If you think otherwise, call your MsOC and ask.

Oh, sorry for any misunderstanding. I'm applying to all my sources of nominations, of course. I was just wondering how some people can say they have two nominations when it seemed like my MsOC are trying to give only one nomination per candidate (so more candidates can get a nomination).

Dictatoranna,

Sorry, that last paragraph was directed to the OP! Oops!

It probably also depends on where you are, how competitive the area is, and how many requests there are for noms. Our son received noms from all of his MsOC even after receiving the Presidential, and every MOC knew that he was applying to all.

Good luck to you!

Thank you very much momof1. I will still apply for other nominations.

dictatoranna-
it is possible to get multiple nominations....not easy, but possible. We are also in a competetive district, however our son received noms from our congressman for USNA and USMA, and from our senator for USMMA....so the advice to apply to all of your sources is sound indeed!

I believe we would find that the process varies by state and by MOC. In our state (very competitive) it works like this: one Senator does not consider any candidates who have received a nomination from either the other Senator or his/her representative. In fact, this Senator sends out a letter saying that he has learned of an alternate nomination and is therefore not considering the applicant. For the past two years, this Senator has waited until all the other state sources have completed their decisions before finalizing his decisions.

On the other hand, the representative from our district doesn't take into consideration whether the first Senator has given a nomination -- this is how my kid got both Senator and representative noms last year, both for USNA.

Has anyone else recieved something on their candidate profile saying presidential nomination recieved?

Maybe a better question would be whether anyone else has applied for a Presidential and not received it.

I didn't mean that, I have talked to my B&G and he doesn't think its a Presidential Nomination

He thinks its just a confirmation that I they have recieved my paperwork; therefore, I want to see if anyone else has what I have b/c they may know more than me

Why not just call and find out? As I said before, that's how it appeared on my son's CIS page when he received his. In any event, you should be receiving a letter soon.

Your right, I should have. I first asked on this forum because my B&G office doesn't like to be bothered (he seemed pretty irritated too when I finally called him a few days ago). Anyways, I sent an email to my regional manager last night and he confirmed this morning that it was a presidential nomination.

Excellent! Again, congratulations! You are way ahead of the game. Is your application complete? If so, then you will have many opportunities to get your file before the committee! Good Job!

Keep us informed!

Thank you momof1. I compeleted everything yesterday. I am hoping its not too late for the August committee but I'll see.
