Nominations to more than one academy

I have 3 nominations to the AF, but I also wanted at least one to the Naval in case I got in there but not the AF. Has anyone dealt with this in the past? Should I call / send a letter to my nominating sources asking for an additional Naval nomination? Would I have to give up an AF one for it? And should I do all of this now, or should I wait to hear from the academy’s (it may then be too late).

Thank you.

which academy do you really want to go to?

i assume, class of 2012?

gglock did you place USAFA as #1 with all your nominating sources? Is USAFA where you want to go? If so I would tell you to take a breath. If you have been triple nominated Sen/Sen/Rep,and your package is complete (no waivers pending) you should be hearing soon. Remember by this time in the game you have passed most of the hurdles. Yes there are some who will not get the appointment (not many). It is painfull having to wait until Mid-March for that phone call.

If you want Navy don't let anyone here hold you back. You can make the call. I do not know how it will be recieved at this time, but you have to choose.

I received a nomination for both the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy from the same representative. If you specified that you were applying for both then you should be fine, as long as you are competitive in both pools.

Yes 2012. And AF is my 1st choice. My blue and gold officer from the naval academy has been calling a LOT, like once a week for the past few weeks, and she keeps urging me to visit the naval academy and that I should try to get a nomination to it. She wants me to go as far as to lie to my representatives, telling them that I didn't realize the flying opportunities at the naval academy and that I want to change my nomination. I appreciate the fact that she likes me and wants me to go Navy, but I think she's being a bit too forward...

Do not, under any circumstance, lie to your rep. That being said, it may be very difficult at this point to get another nom for this year. The MOC's final date to turn in a nom was 1/31. If your MOC slate is full the MOC would have to un-nominate someone else in order to give you a USNA nom (which I can guarantee won't happen). If your MOC's USNA slate is not full it is possible to get a nom but again, I would not hold my breath. If AFA is your first choice and you have three noms I don't see the problem.

You're exactly right. Well, thank you!

If you want USAFA, don't be swayed by your B&G officer. Especially to lie....that's suspicious IMO.

If you have 3 noms, expect a nice envelope soon.

I totally agree with the above posts -- do NOT lie. And I think hornet is right -- be optimistic about that fat envelope arriving.
Now concerning USNA and no nomination, it is MY opinion that if USNA really wants you (and you do not have a congressional nomination) they will find one for you somewhere. I base that on our son's experience last year with USMA. He had noms to USAFA and USNA. USMA was his third choice and he did not receive a nomination for them from our congressmen. However, "out of nowhere" he got a VP to USMA along with an offer of appointment. Wild and crazy things happen on this path...

Thanks Darla :)
