vcm2007: Thanks for the tip. Don't want to insult anyone with the wrong grunt.

jajaja, dont worry bout it, im just teasing

I got Senator Kennedy's nomination also! My BGO said it was the first time in the 20 years that he's been working that that has happened. So now I have four!! Can I just hear something already???

w00t! sweet work!

Thanks Bria.

I'm guessing Feinstein gave out 10 like everyone else. My friend got one from her too. The guys interviewing us asked us a lot about football this year, I thought it was kind of akward how much time we spent talking about that. Maybe that was the deciding factor.

I haven't heard anything from Boxer except that they received my application. Seems like she should have done interviews a long time ago. Aren't all the nominations due by the end of the month?

Hey there.... Nice work on your nominations!!! I'm from California too and I didn't get one from Feinstein and I haven't heard anything back from Boxer. I got one from Duncan Hunter, my congressman, so its all good. I was kinda disapointed I didn't get Feinstein's though because the guys on the phone sounded like they loved me. They kept saying, "We are extreamly impressed!" Oh well. That is kinda strange Boxer hasn't done anything. Maybe she just doesn't have as good of a nominations staff as Feinstein. Well at least I only need one!

It is proper and fitting for future commissioned officers to always refer to a Senator or Congressman as such, rather than just by a last name.

Thanks gopherkitty.

Feinstein's interview guys really liked me too. Like at the end the first guy was all, "Yeah, thank you again Kyle, we're extremely empressed, you did a great job," and then the second guy comes on and he says, "Yeah, you hit one out of the park, every single time!" Kind of caught me off guard since I was apparently 1 of 1000 applying for one of those ten spots (pretty dang competative) so I wasn't expecting them to start praising my accomplishments or anything.

The admins at my school are all stoked since two of Feinstein's nominees are from there and will likely be midshipmen at the Naval Academy. No one from my school has gone to a service academy for a few years.

My friend last year was accepted to West Point and the Airforce Academy but did not receive a nomination. He was instead then offered a spot at the Airforce prep school this last semester and will attend the academy next year.

What high school do you go to gopherkitty? Your district is right next to mine. Congratulations on getting Duncan Hunters nomination.

For both gopherkitty & Jonez, I have heard that Boxer doesnt dole out nominations until after most of the CA sources have been used up; possibly in February. Thats late, but who knows maybe she has an extension ;) . If anyone knows more about this, or can clarify, please post.

Oh & sorry Semper the last names used are code-talk, you see. The honorable California Senator Barbara Boxer gives her nominations out later.

I know that you need only one nomination, but does the academy look favorably upon a candidate having two or more nominations? In other words, do you get "points" fo this or have an increased chance to gain an appointment?

Finally...I received word on my nomination! My congressman nominated me to USNA & West Point. I am so excited! I had to wait a couple of days after the congressional office had said I would receive the letter; I got the letter yesterday and they had told me I would find out by the 15th. Maybe they thought itd be funny to make me wait. Its kind of amusing how this whole process turns you into a complete mail hound.

Does anyone know if its best to like write a thank you to your congressman? Because I am definitely thankful for a nomination and Im all about writing thank yous for everything anyway. What do you guys think?

I would recommend it. If, despite your nomination, you do not receive an appointment, you will be in the interview chair next year. You would want the committee to remember how grateful you were for their support.

Bria,
Congratulations on the nominations to WP and USNA too! I agree with candidatemom about writing a thank you to your MOC (even though he/she took FOREVER!) I nagged my daughter about writing thank you's to everyone who wrote letters of recommendations, evaluations, and especially her angelic counselor who does so much for the kids. We also included Starbucks cards with the thank you's. Though I don't recommend that for your MOC! Good Luck!

No there isn't. Would you like to know another word for "future commissioned officer?" "Civilian."

DeepThroat

If anyone from NY is wondering about nominations, my son received one from Senator Chuck Schumer today! Received congressional a couple of weeks ago. Anyone hear from Senator Clinton yet?

usnawannabemom~we have not heard from Senator Clinton's office either. How did you get one from Senator Schumer if you already have a Congressional nomination? My son was called by Senator Schumer's office and they wouldn't interview him because he had a nomination from our Congressman. They were emphatic about it...anyway congrats....we've been waiting to hear from Senator Clinton's office. Where in NY are you from?

juniormom - he didn't receive congressional nomination until way after his interview with Senators office. The nominating sources tell you to only get one nomination, but the academy tells you to get all that you can so go figure.

And thanks for the congrats, congrats to your son too!
