Nominations

Hey everyone, I haven't been on in a while, but have recieved a nomination, completed my medical with DODMERB, and have passed/ might retake my CFA. Also, my entire application has been completed. When do you think I shall hear from the Academy regarding my appointment, considering I'm nearly finished with the process.

Your options:

1) Stare really hard at the mailbox. If you will it, that appointment package may magically appear much quicker than if you just sit and wait for it.
2) Keep walking to and from the mailbox each and every day. When you're at school, delegate the task to others in your family. (Many current cadets report this method worked successfully.)
3) Stalk the postman. Make him really happy to deliver as early in the day as possible to you.
4) Sigh a lot. This creates a psychic connection to Admissions and they'll know that you really, really, really want the appointment.

Actually, we did all of these. So without a control on the experiment I'm not sure which option worked the best.

Now, what you really need to do is:

1) Update your file with any new academic/athletic/leadership responsibilities and honors.
2) Enjoy your high school senior year. This will be the only one you have.
3) Remember that patience is a virtue. It really could be several months until you hear a final decision.
4) Remain with us on cc so that you can help your future classmates cope with the waiting.
5) And keep all of the cyberparents informed. We love offering ongratulations.

Congratulations on the nomination. We look forward to hearing your questions about boots and underwear.

Thanks momoftwins, I'm preparred to wait as long as possible, even though I don't want to.

And that's a great and realistic attitude!

LOL momoftwins -- great post (#2) . As usual ;)

usmalax:

Congratulations on your nomination and the completion of your application package. Momoftwins advice is dead-on. Especially the part about updating any application information.

The timing for appointments depends on the strength of your application and the other candidates competing in your congressional district. If your application is strong enough to earn one of the approximately 200 Letters of Assurance, you could hear back from USMA immediately. Otherwise expect to wait until at least January/February when the congressional nominations are submitted and USMA admissions has reviewed the nominated candidates.

While it won't take away the anxiety of waiting, keep in mind that the majority of appointments are issued in spring. Also, your odds of receiving an appointment are about 75% for fully qualified candidates.

Good luck.
