I've just started collecting all the info i need to begin contacting all my nomination sources. Other than the "I desire to attend the United States Military Academy and to be commissioned in the Regular Army. I respectfully request....." letter that is provided at the candidate wepage, do i need to include a PERSONAL letter to each nomination source???? I have JUST started with the nomination crap, so i need to know EXACTLY what to do :)Some of it is so confusing! thanks!

I'm pretty sure you just send in the sample letter and they'll send you an application packet or something in the spring. The letter isn't personal because its not applying for anything (yet), it's just an official request for application material.

I hope you're a junior . . .

Like CWJones explained, you just need to send the sample letter and your nomination source will send you an application packet.

Yes, i'm a junior. I'm gonna be applying for a service-connected nomination (JROTC) and through my district rep, vice-pres and 2 senators. Has anyone here applied for a JROTC nomination? If so, what do i need to do?? Send in the same "I desire to attend the United States Military Academy and to be commissioned in........" letter, and wait for an application packet which i would give to my SAI??

This website is a lot of help! I appreciate all you guys' feedback

If you're applying for an JROTC nomination, talk to the officer in charge of your JROTC program. I'm sure he's got more current information than anyone on this board :)

I applied for both my senators, my representative, and a VP as well. I think the senators and representative people all got together because I only got one nomination. It makes sense to try and spread them out as much as possible. After getting mine, I withdrew my application for a VP because I thought it was greedy to fish in that pool when I was already covered.

I got my appointment through my JROTC nomination. I hear it's very hard to get one (only 20 per year or so?), but I'm not sure if that is true.
I'm in the JROTC program - so mine was assured well before I needed it. All that was necessary was getting him the paperwork to fillout.

It's just a couple forms to fill out - you don't even have to do much.

My SAI is clueless; he has absolutely no knowledge on the subject :(

So USMA011, all i need to do is send the sample letter to admissions and they should send some paperwork back? Thanks!

If you need JROTC Nomination forms, ask your MALO. If your SAI can't figure out how to fill them out or aquire them - he can always call my SAI. Mine's a LTC - Green beret, Ranger...It's really cool... I'm sure my SAI would be more than willing to help out. Are you an Honor Unit w/ Distinction? What's your position?

From the Admissions site...http://admissions.usma.edu/Prospectus/step_02a.cfm

Army Junior and Senior ROTC programs and Honor ROTC units of other services
Applicants enrolled in a Junior or Senior Army Reserve Officer Training Corps programs are eligible for a nomination in this category. Application should be made through the Professor of Military Science or the Senior Instructor to the Director of Admissions, U.S. Military Academy. Your senior instructor must fill out and submit a Request for ROTC Nomination (Form 5-497) to USMA and a USMA Admissions Interview Report (USMA Form 21-8) to be considered for a nomination. Applicants enrolled in JROTC programs of another branch of service are eligible only if that school has been designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction.

So at least you now have some form numbers to feed your instructor....

We are an Army JROTC; honor unit w/distinction. I was a Company Commander (C/CPT) my sophomore year. I am currently the Battalion S-3 (C/MAJ). In march, I will be promoted to the Battalion Commander at our annual military ball.
