<p>"It is he." However, almost nobody uses this anymore, and I doubt it would beon the SAT.</p>
<p>So are both variations commonly accepted?</p>
<p>"It is he" is proper. Linking verbs cannot take objects, only predicate nominatives and adjectives.</p>
<p>it is him is accepted in speech, not formal writing, and sat's would expect it is he.</p>
<p>Grammatically "it is he" is definately correct, but today's spoken language has obscured the idea of what is right in most peoples' minds.</p>
