non a-g classes effect on UC admissions

If they’re not calculated into the GPA are they looked at in the decision about admission? If not, why don’t they just ask for a-g courses on the app?

I thought you were only supposed to put approved courses on your app; i left out 4 classes that weren't on the list
..if i understood what your post is saying

I thought they just wanted your whole record, that's what I put at least. Let's hope they don't hold it against me...it's too late to change it now.

Apparently they only look at academic courses. I put my tennis stuff(team, etc) in the ec's section.

I was bewildered, too. I wish they had told me that earlier, then I wouldn't have had to take stupid classes like wood.

Yeah, I wish they counted the classes. b/c it shows how much time you spend in school, how many more periods , mine that i left out , i do not consider to be ec's

The a-g classes are just for determining the UC GPA. You should include all other courses you took in the course section. For instance, dd had some courses that were Honors at her school, she listed them, but not considered Honors for UC purpose, as well as the following research year. They will look at them if you make the cut. These classes might get her into a really great private college though.

Do you mean I should put down courses like p.e. or a class in career/college prep?

No, I'm pretty sure you don't need to include non-a-g courses in your application. I called and asked about marching band, and not even that is UC-approved, so the hotline person told me to list it in my EC's.

If you did, however, I don't think it would hurt you per se...it'd just make it a little cumbersome for them.
