non-art major pursuing an art-related career

well currently im an economics major, but i was wondering how important is it to have a degree like studio art in order to pursue a career in art. i mean, isn't a portfolio of what you can do more important than an art degree (i mean, a degree in anything must be valuable).

also is it important to have a degree in something art-related to get a masters in something art-related? thanks in advance

you need a portfolio to get into a masters in something art related.

by pursuing a career in art, you mean to say what?

mrx, plenty of people change their career focus and it's not uncommon for people in creative/artistic careers to have studied something else originally. When my husband was in art school one of his friends had a degree in Classics from Stanford and one was a former diplomat.
