I'm applying to several MT programs, but I want to have at least some kind of backup plan. Can anyone give me a list of schools that have an MT program that doesn't require an audition for a BFA? I know there are some BAs that don't require an audition but I'm really looking for a BFA in MT. So if anyone could help me out that would be great! :)

Wichita State University offers a BFA in MT....with auditions for scholarship only.

Go to the following link. Colleges For Musical Theater Major Discussion FAQ

A ~ next to a school indicates that they are non-audition (that they do not require an audition to major in musical theater). Schools without this mark do require an audition.

This is a pretty comprehensive list... however, it is maintained by VERY BUSY volunteers, so be sure to confirm on each schools website to make sure that they wtill no longer require and audition.

Good Luck!

I agree with KatMT that you should go to that thread.

Anyone know how to update the thread? I understand that TCU (Texas Christian U) now requires an audition, so this needs to be updated and the mark removed that shows it as non-audition.

Thanks!

That site was very helpful! Thanks so much! :)

Ericsmom: Thanks for the information about TCU. I've updated the Geocities website.

desales also requires an audition and it has a ~ next to it.

motter3: The only information I could find at the DeSales website was about scholarship auditions, on this page: Admission & Auditions. Schools that do this kind of audition usually do not require an audition for entrance into the program. But if you can direct me to a contact or a webpage with that information, I'd be happy to update the big list.

Thanks.

My D was accepted to DeSales with scholarship-however, we got the impression everyone was required to audition. She did go elsewhere(to Marymount which she is loving), but DeSales is a terrific program with wonderful productions.
I did get the impression that there were not many if any cuts to get into the major, but it did require an audition.

The DeSales BA theatre degree program requires a successful audition (or portfolio review/interview if design/tech) to be accepted into the theatre program as a theatre major (provided also accepted academically by the university) - aka dual admission. The required ‘Talent Scholarship Day’ auditions (or portfolio reviews) are not just for money; they determine who gets accepted as a theatre major. The DeSales website and marketing materials don’t clearly explain that, in my opinion.
@LookB4ULeap - this is a thread from 2008…I believe CC members prefer leaving the old threads alone as they may no longer be relevant.
