Non Audition Musical Theatre colleges

Anyone know of any Non audition collges for Musical Theatre programs? I have a daughter who wishes to apply next year as a transfer student during her sophomore year of college. She has decent academic record.

Welcome to CC. I posted a reply to you earlier today when you posted on CC’s Parent Cafe. I’m glad you came over here as I suggested. Welcome to the MT Forum. I mentioned that you may wish to use the SEARCH function on CC as this topic has been covered quite a bit already on the MT Forum and so a good place to start is to read what already exists and then ask questions as needed.

BEFORE YOU VISIT THE THREADS ON NON-AUDITION MT SCHOOLS>>>
You ought to first check the BIG LIST OF MT COLLEGES HERE:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/801037-big-list-mt-colleges.html</a>
***PLEASE NOTE: The most up to date list is in POST #2 on that thread. If you see a ~ in front of a college name, it indicates that their program is NON-AUDITION.

After you do that ^^^^, then:

To save you time, I have used the Search Function myself and here are some threads that discuss the topic of non-audition MT colleges…

soozie’s advice is great - a good starting place - BUT make sure you double-check. There are schools that were non-audition when the “big list” was originally compiled. Some have since added auditions, and the list may not reflect the current status.

Is there any reason your D is interested only in non-audition programs? My daughter applied as a transfer student this year after finishing 2 years; 1 semester at BoCo and 3 semesters at our cc. It was interesting because of the 2 Ca. schools she applied to, she was accepted through an audition to UCLA as a junior, but rejected at a non-audition program, UCI. UCLA is definitely the more competitive program to get into so we were sort of surprised. We think that because UCI goes only by transcripts, there were probably a lot of other students applying who had similar stats (3.9GPA), so there was a lot of competition academically, and nothing that made her stand out enough; plus I don’t think they took many transfers. UCLA goes more by the audition and she was accepted. Just saying, don’t assume the non-audition programs are easier to get into. Look at a variety of programs to give her some good options. Good luck!

The OP posted in the Parent Cafe that her D tried to transfer this year into audition based MT programs and was unsuccessful. She may try some BFAs again but would need some non-audition BAs in MT as well. Her situation is different than takeitallin’s D who already successfully got into a very competitive BFA in MT at BOCO as a freshman and chose to leave and so knew she had a strong shot at other BFA programs.

Thanks for clarifying Susie! We have been thru this twice now and are still finding out how much we don’t know. And still getting a lot of surprises!

Right, I realize you could not tell from the OP’s post here but I read another post of hers. It is not as if her D is currently in a college for MT, in other words. As well, she has tried once to transfer to BFA in MT colleges and so this is another try and needs a new approach.
