Non audition safety schools for acting

Seeking a list of safeties to go along with BFA Acting schools. Stats: 3.7 GPA, 2010 SAT, 27 ACT, mostly AP & Honors. Solo choir, Accapella, 2 Improv groups, all of the schools plays -1 musical and 2 dramas per year, 2 internships this summer for 1 drama and 1 musical. Usually perform, but 1 of these is assistant to director and stage manager. Part-time summer job, a little volunteer work, “link leader” for incoming freshman. Seeking a school where the focus is on performance. Have nothing on the list yet, so help please!

URI has a non auditioned BFA and with your stats you will get a good scholarship.

There are lots of LACs with good theater departments- is location important? East coast and Midwest (I am in Ohio) have good options. My D’s safeties were Muhlenberg (eastern PA), Kenyon, and Denison (Ohio).

Look at Skidmore, Sarah Lawrence, Vassar – they all have terrific theatre programs.

Try looking into Catawba College in NC. They have a non-auditioned BFA. I had comparable stats to you, and they were offering me tons of money. I toured the school and really, really loved it.

Vassar, while great, would not be a sure bet safety school.

@mpartist, this is off topic, but I’d advise against your reporting your ACT when it comes time to report scores. Your SAT is in a much higher percentage than your ACT.

Thanks everyone! Here is the list so far:

Muhlenberg BA
Emerson BFA Acting
BU BFA Acting
University of Connecticut BFA Acting
Pace BFAs Acting
Loyola Marymount BA
Chapman BFA Acting

Nothing seems safe though?!?!

Chapman, Emerson, Pace and BU are definitely not safeties.

No school that requires an audition should be considered a safety (and many of the schools on your list do).

The OP likely meant that this is her list without safeties and could we help her add some safer choices!

Columbia College Chicago is basically open admissions

Ah, got it  and I second jkelly’s recommendation for Columbia Chicago- I have known a number of people who have gone there. @Mpartist - are you looking to stay close to home (wherever that is) or go farther away? City or traditional campus? There are lots of LACs in my part of the country (the Midwest, specifically Ohio) that offer strong theater programs. Would that be something interesting to you?

URI was my D’s safety. But there are lots of schools with good BA theater departments. (Ohio Wesleyan was another she liked.) Does Loyola Marymount have an audition? If not it will likely be a great safety for her and I’ve heard it has a good theater dept. I like what toowonderful says above-- what else does she want in a school? Keep that in mind too.

I agree about losing that ACT score when the SAT score is so good.

URI was a safety for son also. They also offered a nice scholarship.

Thanks everyone…near LA or in the Northeast, preferably near NYC. Open to all types of schools, but really into acting and film. More of a supportive environment to grow, not cut throat. Loyola Marymount has a video audition, no live one. Was thinking Temple as a potential safety. Although website says an audition is required, it also said you could still take classes and audition again at a later date…not sure if that means that most would pass the audition and most can get into the program?
