Hi! I’m currently a senior at a really competitive high school in north Texas, and I really want to get into UT. However, I am not in the top 6% of my class so I cannot have guaranteed admission. I’ll leave my stats below so if anyone can please chance me that’d be so awesome!
SAT: 1530 (won’t submit)
ACT: 35 (will submit)
PSAT : 1490 , National Merit Semi-Finalist and hoping to be finalist
GPA: 4.29, school does not send unweighted due to high class rigor
Rank: top 12%. I’m worried about this the most but my school is known for being difficult and competitive so a lower rank might not be as heavy? idk
Took a total of 15 AP classes in high school and so far have scored 4s/5s on all of them.
Essay is solid, 8/10 at least, supplementals good as well.
EC’s:
-Volunteer and intern at 3 diff medical clinics
- Walmart part-time associate
-Speech and debate mentor for 4 years at local community center
-100+ volunteer hrs
- Have 2 patented technologies and placed as a semi-finalist at an international NASA competition
-Founder of 2 clubs at my school and officer of 5 clubs throughout high school
MAJOR: Biology/ Biomedical Sciences
Thanks to anyone who replies! Brutal honesty is what I’m looking for
It’s just hard to tell. It’s very difficult to get in as a non-auto admit student. My Rank is definitely important to UT, but they will like your test scores and GPA.
My nephew had excellent stats except his rank was about the same as yours in a competitive high school and he didn’t get in. He even appealed. All you can do is give it your best shot, but don’t count on it.
All you can do is submit an application and hope you get in. I think your chances are terrific! Remember getting in is only half the battle at UT. You need to get into the major you want too, and there’s no guarantees at that school. Just be sure to apply to other schools like Texas A&M, U of H, UNT, etc.
He’s in state but not auto admit. If your high school has naviance, check to see if UT has accepted students like you before. Also, the major selected will make a difference.
Word of encouragement here. My son had identical rank, Sat/act scores, and AP numbers, was in-state and was admitted to UT’’s Natural Sciences. So if you wrote a great essay, I think you have every chance to get in! Good luck!!
Even though your school doesn’t send uwGPA, UT will look at your grades and rigor. Does your HS use Naviance? If so, this will give you a better sense of your chances than anyone on CC can.
Here are stats from class of 2022 showing a 19.5% in-state non-auto admit acceptance rate. https://admissions.utexas.edu/explore/freshman-profile
Good luck.
Thanks to everyone who replied. I’d love to see what naviance has to say but unfortunately my school does not update SAT/ACT. The only score on there right now is my PSAT so i dont think it would be the most accurate comparison. How do you think I can strengthen my application?
Your stats are above average for TX non auto admitted student… the acceptance rate for that group is less then 20%… a majority of applicants are STEM and business so you need to focus on what makes you stand out. Students with similar stats have been denied so think outside the box. There is no formula.
