Hey guys. This is my first time ever posting…so please don’t judge me for not doing this right. Ut is my dream school; i have visited 3 times so far and i can say that i am in love! However, I have been really worried about whether i will be able to be admitted to UT, because i wasn’t able to bring up my rank to the top 7 percent. I want to apply to CNS as a public health major. Do i stand a chance?
Here are my stats:
SAT: 1280/1600 (taking again hoping for a 1350)
Rank: 23/265 (rank went down people left my class)
I go to a special college highschool where i take mostly dual-credit courses,so i will graduate with 2 years of college credit.
I take all ap and college courses.
Extracurriculars:
-Hosa (president)
-Student council
-Class of 2017 historian,treasurer,class rep
-colorguard (sophmore,junior)
-choir (freshman,sophmore)
-1st place In State Hosa competition
-140+ volunteer hours
-participate in clinicals at school
-multiple awards in colorguard and choir
-city awards and recognition
I live in Texas and i am an African American woman.
If there is anything i forgot to include please request it and i will make sure to respond.
Thank you!!!
I think you have a better chance than most non-autos. Your rank is pretty good, your scores do need to increase a little. Don’t discount the ACT. You may do better on it. Send ALL scores.
Your ECs and leadership are very strong. Be very diligent about documenting them in your app and submit an expanded resume. We were told they could be several pages long.
You are also a URM. UT just won a Supreme Court case defending its affirmative action policy. They can’t tell you how much it helps you, just that it does help.
There are no guarantees for non-autos. I’d get some safeties, work hard on the application, prep for the tests and learn about CAP and PACE. Those programs are not really the greatest for kids with a lot of dual credit or AP credit. You will want to decide for yourself if it comes to that.
Thank you so much for your response! I will make sure to look into taking the act. I didn’t think i would do very well on it because math is not my best subject, but i think it wouldn’t hurt to try. My safety right now is Texas Tech… Thank you again!
