non-Christians at BYU?

ok so I already know it’s hard to get in if you’re non-Mormon, but what about if you’re non-Christian? I’m Buddhist, NOT Christian. But I have all the same values [no drinking, smoking, drugs, or sexual activity] as Mormons, even if it’s not part of my religion itself. Am I too far off the scale from being Mormon to even have a chance at BYU?

It’s a good question. I am currently a senior at BYU. I have many friends here at BYU who are Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindi, Jewish, Protestant, and even atheist. BYU does not require you to be of any particular religion to attend. The only requirement is that you live by the “Honor Code,” which is a document all students are required to sign. It has many requirements which are specific to the religion (such as not drinking, drugs, smoking etc. as you mentioned) and some requirements that are specific to BYU (i.e. no facial hair for guys.) It is no more difficult to get into BYU if you are not Mormon than it is if you are Mormon. If your grades, test scores, and other factors are good enough, you can certainly get accepted. It’s a wonderful campus, and great environment. It does take some getting used to if you’re not familiar with the “Mormon culture” but it’s a very rewarding experience. I hope that you seriously consider applying.

I agree with everything pengpeiyl has mentioned except for that it may be easier for a non-mormon to get into BYU. Just an assmption, no factual base. :)

I agree with cdcd.

being ‘clean cut’ is something no other than cultural for was jesus and company sporting not only long beards but long hair as well? and god the father too sports likewise and they wear ‘dresses’. still to this day middle easterners, muslim africans…sport jesus’ physical demeanour…something to laugh at what is considered ‘clean cut’; skirt or kilt…

Yeah. Too bad it’s an LDS school. Maybe that’s why it would be easier if you were, I don’t know, LDS?
