Hello. I’ve been applying for financial aid for a few schools and many require the NCP to give their information through the CSS financial aid, as well as pay a $25 fee to send that information. These colleges offer a waiver for “extenuating circumstances”, and I would like to know if you all think that I have a good enough case. I’ve read a few forums where people are very pessimistic about colleges actually considering the waiver, so I want to know if it’s worth it. I haven’t seen my NCP in just over 5 years. I have had no contact with him, and I do not know where he lives. He DOES provide child support, HOWEVER it was court ordered to be garnished from his paycheck, so it is NOT voluntary and this does not give me his address because it is taken directly from his paycheck. The money is sent directly from the state, so I do not know where he works either. My CP wants to also include 2 police reports of child abuse from when I did know him. I’m not expecting colleges to accept it, as I’m well aware that they value money more than a random applicant like me, but do you think it is worth a shot? Two letters from third party sources are required, so I will have one from my guidance counselor and one from the pastor at my church who has known me since my baptism. Also, if this is not good enough for a waiver, what “extenuating circumstances” do colleges find worthy of a waiver? Or are waivers simply a chance to feel like you had some control, but in reality they’re pointless? Any help is very much appreciated!! Have a great day everyone.
I’m no expert in this, but I have seen people report that proof of child abuse is enough at many schools that require NCP info/waivers.
Those reporting that child abuse was “enough” to get a waiver indicated that the schools did not want the student to contact a parent who had been shown to be abusive to the child.
I agree with the above info. I’ve read of similar situations.
Thank you both very much!! I truly appreciate your help
