Non Custodial Parent's Child Support Question

I talked with an attorney about why I have to enter a child support number in the CSS Profile form when child support ENDS at the end of high school. Her answer is that the form is not meant for all situations i.e., some states do not have it end in the senior high school year. She said not to include child support since it will not exist in college. I also asked a tuition "expert" and he said do what I feel comfortable with. Now, I am totally confused. I don't want to do anything illegal, but it does seem wrong to put down his support when it simply will not exist in her college. I did add wording in the supplemental explanation area regarding the cutoff date in the state of Maryland for child support. Should I put it down (like I already have) or not?

On the profile they usually have income for previous year (2010) and income (projected) for following year (2011). If your filling out for 2010 (when you will receive child support) I would include whatever you will receive. For 2011 also include whatever child support you will receive (to graduation or other cut off date). Then make sure you make a note that child support of $X will end on date Y. Most CSS Profile schools will consider this in the FA formula. In my case the child support was rather small and didn’t make much difference. I didn’t word this very clearly so I hope you understand what I meant!

Do not omit anything that is requested. If you want to have the issue reviewed, you can make a note - but do not simply leave it out.
