non-degree status and transfer

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has any experience with non-degree status. My daughter is an undergrad (finished 2 years) and wants to transfer because she is having trouble getting the classes she needs at her current school. However, she didn't find out that she would not get the necessary classes until too late for the fall 2009 transfer apps. I am wondering if she could sign up as a non-degree student for the fall at our big, state U and make it official for the spring semester? Any experience?

This depends on the big state U. She needs to find out if it is truly indeed too late to transfer for the fall. It might not be.

If she can’t transfer in for the fall, she needs to ask about registering in non-degree status, and how many credits she can take in that status before she must become an official transfer student. Will all of her coursework there count toward the degree, or is there a limit to the number of credits taken in non-degree status that can be used for a degree program? Also, the non-degree students are usually the last in line to register for a class, so it is possible that some of the courses she wants will be filled up before she can register for them. Her major department may be able to help with this, so she needs to make an appointment with them too.

Wishing both of you all the best!

Thank you very much for you advice! She will be calling admissions and trying to ask all the right questions today.
