Non-LAC Liberal Arts

I was wondering which of the top universities are considered to have the very best liberal arts/humanities/writing programs for someone who is really into the liberal arts but doesn't want to go to a small liberal arts college?

University of Chicago, maybe?

There are smaller universities (600-1500+ freshman class) with strong liberal arts credentials such as Bucknell, Wake Forest, Colgate, Holy Cross, Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Dartmouth and Yale for starters.

The University of Rochester

Adding to Collegeparent's list: Tufts, Duke, Rice.

Is Duke very strong on liberal arts? Because I was thinking I would apply there but somehow got the impression that it was a very pre-professional type school.
