Non-MCB premed Q

if we are not mcb, as far as chem reqs as a premed go, can we get away with:

gen chem: chem1a/chem 3a
ochem: chem 3b/mcb 102

or do we also need 3AL and 3BL? i know we dont need 3AL itself for 3B...does this mean the only people taking 3AL/3BL will be those who need it for their major/love chem?

i dont want to take 3al/3bl and kill my gpa more if i dont have to and i have TELEBEARS monday, so any help would be appreciated. thanks :)

No you can’t. Med schools require one year of both organic and inorganic chemistry WITH LAB.

BTW Chem labs are easy and usually help your grade with on average around 85-95% of the class getting A’s. The lectures like 3A and 3B are what’s going kill your GPA.

ok thanks cb and LH-i guess if the lab portion is easy on the gpa, no harm can be done. but LH you are wrong about needing 3Al for 3B…pasted directly from the course catalog:

Chemical Structure and Reactivity – Chemistry (Department Of) (CHEM) 3B [3 units]
Course Format: Three hours of lecture per week.
Prerequisites: 3A with a grade of C- or higher.
Credit option: Students will receive no credit for 3B after taking 112B.
Description: Conjugation, aromatic chemistry, carbonyl compounds, carbohydrates, amines, carboxylic acids, amino acids, peptides, proteins, and nucleic acid chemistry. Ultraviolet spectroscopy and mass spectrometry will be introduced.
(F,SP)

Well Frechet did say that this year Chem 3A will be more fast pace because I guess they will also teach NMR in Chem 3A since budget cost caused people to not be able to get into 3AL.

^
wait nmr is gonna be on the final? i thought we’re skipping chapter 10…

I’m not 100% sure, but I remember him saying something like that. I hope he doesn’t teach it at the end.
