Non Native English Speaker TOEFL?

I came to US about 10 years ago, and I had my education in the US since then. Also, I'm a permanent resident.
CMU admission page states that applicants must take TOEFL or IELTS if their first language is not English.
Is there a way to get TOEFL exemption?
Did anyone get the exemption? Or did any non native English speaker got into CMU without taking TOEFL?

We also went to their presentation 2 years ago and the college rep insisted that if English was not your first language you had to take it. Personally, I don’t see the reasoning behind it when an applicant has the majority of their education in the States. But this does strike me as a particular CMU application quirk. The rep was quite adamant about it.

I’m a student at CMU right now and when I applied (3 years ago) I didn’t have to take anything other than the SAT & SAT II. Keep in mind that I had been in the US for 4 years at the time & English is not my first language. Perhaps you should contact the HUB and ask about it.
